Fergie fury at son's sacking at Preston - recalls on loan players

Apparently he has recalled 3 players Man U had on loan at Preston. What an immature pwick the guy is! Grow up man, ffs - you're in your 60s, time to start acting like it. Preston are bottom of the league so your son deserved to get sacked, especially given that they are normally play off challengers - what did you seriously expect?

Precisely

What a plonker. You cant let this sort of issue be used to taint your professionalism. The Eurosport web site also says that "his close friend Tony Pulis at Stoke has also recalled two players from Preston"

Tremendous manager if not the best ever but sad man when he doesnt get his way.

Recall reading "the Boss" IIRC by Michael Crick which he tried to stop and was full of tales of Nepotism with regard to him and his other son (Martin?) who was an agent at the time

In fairness they are clearly only at preston because of his son so why not recall them and send them where he wants...

None of the players were really getting a game, and were due back from their loan spells next week anyway.

Still, don't let that get in the way.

I'm no fan of fergie, but he is very cautious where he sends his youth players, he must trust the manager and the style of play/training before letting any player go on loan, maybe thinks it's better to get them back and put them somewhere else in jan window. or maybe he's just a bitter old man

Certainly an act of small petulance but TBF, they are only missing one game. Loans were due up on the 3rd.

Maybe a bit of a non story then but why not just wait a few days & act with a bit of dignity?

Correct.

PNE chairman was on Sky, confirming they had been recalled by Man United, along with a couple of players who had been loaned to them by Stoke I think (although he did say it was part of the loan agreement set up with Stoke, whereby if they (Stoke) ran into injury problems and needed to recall the loan players it could be done on 24 hrs notice).

Chairman said he had no ill feeling towards either Man United or Stoke, as they had operated within the boundaries of the loan agreements. In fact he thanked both clubs for helping them out by loaning them the players in the first place.

"Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has recalled three loan players from Preston after they sacked his son Darren.

The young trio of Joshua King, Ritchie de Laet and Matthew James will not play for North End again this season as the Scot put his foot down following Wednesday's decision to terminate Ferguson Jr's contract.

Alex Ferguson's close friend Tony Pulis, manager of Stoke, has rubbed salt into the wound by recalling loan players Michael Tonge and Danny Pugh from Deepdale.

Preston are bottom of the Championship table, five points from safety, after appointing Ferguson a year ago.

King and De Laet were not due back at Old Trafford until after the new year clashes against Derby and Crystal Palace, while United have asked that England U19 captain James's season-long loan be ended "as soon as possible".

Preston chairman Maurice Lindsay said: "It's come as a shock to us and a big blow.

"Ritchie and Joshua won't be available because we got a message from Manchester United that they've been summoned back immediately.

"They would like Matty back as well - but his contract is a little different."

First-team coach David Unsworth has been put in charge for the next three matches while the club considers a longer-term successor.

"What a baptism of fire for David Unsworth, to be told within half an hour in the job that two or three of your best players have been summoned back," Lindsay added. "

So one was actually on a season long loan but has been recalled & the Preston chairman referred tom them as 2 or 3 of their best players so presumably they were getting a game? Sticking up for your family is one thing but there is also the question of these players' development to consider too which is presumably why they were sent to Preston to get 1st team football. The phrase "cutting your nose to spite your face comes to mind" - seems to be another petulent childish bit of behaviour from someone most of us will acknowledge as a great manager but a roaster of a man.

Who's disputing he's a great manager? Does that give him the right to act like a tosser all the time though?

Part of the reason Fergie has done so well over the years is the way he has built up a network around the English game. Half the EPL managers have worked for him as either a player or coach. Anyone who crosses Fergie or his minions will be attacked in the same way. Suck up to Lord Ferg and you will get any spare youth players he has kicking around. Challenge him and they will disappear. It's also handy if say Man U play Sunderland on the last day of the season and need to make up some goal difference.

He looks after his own and they look after him.

I'm with Fozzy on this one. Fergie should have waited for a few days for the short term loans expired, he's just doing his usual bullying.

How old is Darren ? and still running to his dad ??

As every parents knows there comes a time when you have to let your children stand on their own two feet and not fight their battles for them, who is going to want Darren now ?

Would be surprised if big Sam took that job given the high opinion he has of himself. I think he sees himself as way above championship level.

Can any of those moaning about Ferguson and his "lack of professionalism" for asking for loanees back once his son was sacked if they were up in arms complaining about his "lack of professionalism" by sending players to his sons club when they could have went elsewhere?

Seems some folk hate Ferguson so much they will have a go at him for nothing.

The one with the season long thing might be going back as he is injured according to the PNE chairman on SSN earlier.

Would you not expect this to perhaps be done quietly though?

Granted SAF has every right to bring them back but it looks a bit spiteful

Maybe thats the whole point though?..............feck with me or ma laddie and you will regret it?

A mate of mine was in the company of a former Scotland manager several years ago when Fergie's laddie Darren was still playing and said former Scotland manager let on that every time he was on the phone to Fergie the subject of whether his son could get a Scotland cap came up.

A wee bit off-topic, but I remember a game at Brockville in the '60s where he was on the goal-line, unchallenged, and all he had to do was tap the ball in. Instead, he inexplcably managed to scoop it 'ower the bar. It was, and still remains, my 'miss' of the 20th century. His face turned bright crimson immediately afterwards - a physical trait he seems to have retained to this day.

My opinions of him?:

1) As a player - a big cumbersome haddie.

2) As a manager - brilliant.

3) As a human being - abnoxious. They say that power corrupts. I'll go along with that.

Anybody mind a few years ago he was caught speeding on a motorway at twice the speed of sound? Got away with it scot-free, as I recall. Made up some sort of tawdry excuse that none of us mere mortals would get away wi'. (allegedly suffering from diarrhoea, IIRC).
