"Clubs will be places of impermanence and fear: which many already were, but without quite this level of ignorance."

Great piece, which many KB readers might be interested in. As crazy as Vlad seemed up until a couple of years ago, he wasn't a patch on some of the basket cases springing up in the EPL these days.

What I liked is they're expecting 4th or 5th place with attractive football. They're going to achieve this with ?5M, signing Geovanni and Kris Boyd.

As boring as Allardyce was to watch, he's a man who got results. He'd get a club midtable in the EPL, but it wouldn't be an enjoyable time. Fair enough if new owners want to show their ambition by kicking him out and implementing a plan to bring European Football to Ewood Park (or whatever they're going to rename it...), but they better be ready to put up some serious cash. I mean, to push Blackburn up to that level on a consistent basis will take tens of millions to start it up, then they'll need to back that up year on year to stay ahead of their competitors.

With regards to Newcastle and Blackburn, this article makes sense.

However it goes far to over the top when the writer takes shots at West Ham, Aston Villa and Liverpool. Starting with the latter, the tone of the article derides John Henry and co for calling the recent results "unacceptable." The problem is that everyone knows the backing of the new owner is the ONLY thing keeping Roy Hodgson in a job. As for Villa, how can you condemn an owner for deciding, that in a poor economic climate, it is not worth gambling on a top four finish? Then there is West Ham. Saying "win one of the next three" may sound ridiculous but so is the fact Grant is still in a job. He should have been booted a month or so ago. Even two wins from the next three will likely have them still languishing in the relegation zone.

I really like football writing from the Guardian but that is a poor article.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.....or some such parable.

Anyway, in India, rich families have been successful in business by growth through acquisition and through the sheer incompetence of their local competitors (and sometimes large wads of cash being pushed under doors).

Venky's thinks (for some reason) that it knows how to run a football club. They dont realise that they're not competing in India and against Indian competitors (anyone who's seen the circus that is the IPL would know how bad Indian sports management is).

Anyway, these chaps will find out quickly that they are in for a tough battle. Expect to see Blackburn playing pre-season in India. It'll be hot, wet and no-one will be interested in coming to see them.

Thank Goodness we have Vlad.
