I thought it was a bit slow up to the twist in the middle and then it just flew. It's surprising every time, they just crank up the tension, long pauses, too long, the camera just holds on a scene, a face, for 10 seconds too long and then BAM! They've got you, but not in the way you expect! It's brilliantly done. It's also very much about the people, the characters. They are rounded out and believable, they're not just cliches, even if they tick all the boxes, they've managed to have an ensemble cast that remains fresh and clever. Handsome hero-check Tortured best friend-check Smart Asian kid-check Dumb ass redneck-check Wisdom spouting old dude-check Big black guy that doesn't say much-check Wife with a secret-check It's all there, as you'd expect, but somehow it never plays the way you'd expect.
