Saturday's scheduled away game against St Johnstone has been switched to a home game at Riccarton. The kick off is at noon, so there is still a clash with the 1pm ko at Tynecastle. I intend going along at least for the start of the game.

Hearts U19s continued their winning ways this afternoon with a narrow 1-0 win against St. Johnstone with a fine finish from Jason Holt. Hearts fully merited their win and would have won more easily had they not spurned two or three good chances. The weather conditions weren't conducive to good football but Hearts were the better side in possession over the piece and created the better chances.

Darren Murray made one enforced change to the side with Shaun Hill coming in for the injured Kevin McHattie at left back.

Hearts line up

Fairley

Mullen, McCormack, Hamilton Hill

Morton Holt Prychynenko Robinson Smith (Patterson)

Ogleby.

It took Hearts twenty minutes or so to subdue their visitors, as St Johnstone started the game at a high tempo and competed strongly for every ball. However, Hearts coped well with the challenge and created a couple of half chances for Ogleby and Robinson in the early stages, but it was 30 minutes before either keeper was tested when Robinson forced the St Johnstone keeper into a good blocking stop at his near post.

Hearts went ahead after 35 minutes when a long ball into the right channel from McCormack found Jason Holt who saw the keeper a few yards off his line and flighted a lovely chip into the far corner of the net.

St Johnstone had one chance before half time but the attempt to lob Fairley from distance was weak and Fairley was able to take a few steps backwards and make a comfortable save.

The second half started like the first with both sides working hard. In 47 minutes Robinson mad a driving run through the middle of the Saints defence, but his shot was diverted wide off the keeper's legs. Hearts ten settled down and had the majority of possession, but St Johnstone looked dangerous on the break as the half progresed. Morton, Robinson and Prychynenko created further half chances as the weather deteriorated and Saints had one effort on goal superbly touched around the post by Fairley as time started to run down.

Hearts coped well in the last few minutes keeping the play in the Saints half and saw the game out successfully to gain a deserved victory and 3 points.

Best for Hearts were Jamie McCormack with a commanding performance at the back and Jason Holt for his goal and forward runs from midfield.

Holt, Pyrotechnics and Robinson.

That is some central midfield we have to look forward to.

Any chance one of them will get fast tracked to the first team this season?

At least the second time you have singled this lad out for praise. How old is he and do you think he has a good chance of making our first team?

Jamie is now 18 and like everone else of that age he is in his final season with the U19s and is effectively playing for his future career a footballer. He has got better as the season has progressed and on present form must have a chance of winning a contract. His nickname of "gnasher" is a deserved one given his robust style of play, but it's one that is not without skill as he demonstrated today on one mazy run from the back, up to the opposition box, before he was crowded out.

It's good to see some youngsters giving their all in search of a contract, rather than has happened in recent seasons when some who have been less than impressive in their last season with the U19s have been given one. It's part of the reason why we have such a bloated squad at present.

Great to hear, thanks.

One last thing, what's his pace like? We could really do with some pace at the back.

He has decent pace as has just about everyone else in the squad. It's one of the key attributes in players that they have been looking for of late.

Perhaps Mr Doncaster should make it compulsory for an under 23 league so that we can play these guys.

Maybe Scotland doesn't want young players.....

Who decided that the reserve league should be scrapped?

Just checked the results from the other U19 games this weekend

Dundee Utd 2-3 ICT

St Mirren 2-1 Kilmarnock

Aberdeen 1-0 Hibs

Celtic 3-1 Motherwell

Hamilton 3-1 Rangers

............ which all means that Hearts are back on top of the league. Rangers & Celtic still have games in hand but the top of the table is much tighter.

There are some strange results going on this season, paticularly Hamilton who lost to bottom the table Kilmarnock last week, but beat top of the table Rangers this week. They also have an 8-0 defeat and a 7-0 win on their record.

So it was an 11-1 vote then.....

What a heap of shite....

I thought the voting had been changed because it was not democratic... 8 to 4....
