Football quiz

Ok it's not a quiz but it sounds more appealing than saying it was a questionnaire.

I need to do a research essay for my Communication degree at College and it's basically about finding out why attendances have fallen in the SPL. So I'm hoping that some of you can give me some help by filling in this questionnaire. It'll only take a minute or two and it would be much appreciated, plus it means I don't have to ask any Old Firm fans.

I'll leave question one in, just in case any of the Hibs lurkers want to post.

My argument is that the Old Firm ruin the game up here and why should people pay so much money to aim for third place.

Average attendances rose slightly from season 2005/06 to 2006/07. Attendances appear to have dropped slightly this season, however, Dundee United, Falkirk and Inverness' crowds have improved on last season and the Gretna effect should be taken into account.

Compared to average crowds in 2001/02 - Rangers, Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen and Dundee United crowds are up (Hearts and Hibs significantly) and Celtic, Motherwell and Kilmarnock's crowds are slightly down. Falkirk and Inverness's crowds have improved since their first season after promotion, however, St Mirren's have gone down.

Full stats are available on the SPL website. I'm not sure there is a real problem with crowds falling in the SPL so your essay may be statistically inaccurate.

First of all, cheers for the replies. It's a real help and any further replies would be great.

Cheers for that. The angle I'm mainly looking at is over a period of time from the past to the present. It's also looking at ground capacity used. For example between 2002-03 and 2006-07, on average, Kilmarnock and Motherwell didn't get above 50%, Aberdeen and Dundee United didn't get above 60%. Compare that to even when the SPL was set up, or certainly in the case of Aberdeen and Dundee United, the 80s. It's really only Hearts and possibly Hibs that have really escaped dropping crowds to a large extent.

It seems that most teams have a die hard support now and that crowd figures don't fluctuate too much. But they can't seem to attract along many casual fans anymore. Maybe briefly if they do well for a period of time but when they stop, these people stop going again.
