Bobby-G
Colin hesp played no 8 for FP’s Peggy (Real Name Barbera) Arneill taugh my mother in law art and was a friend of the family. Lived with her sister in Falkirk, until her sister passed away. Shock of shocks - she is still alive. Mrs Sydaef taught me French and her husband taught me csys physics and I played classical guitar with him a few times at end of school. He was way better than me. Anybody remember that strange agency French teacher called Mrs Howard Gordon (Madam Mercury for all you chemistry scholars). Chester Barnes tried to punch me once for forgetting swimming kit. Shame the craze was to have huge metal belt buckles and I didn’t feel a thing through my southern comfort buckle. He winced and turned away though. Aaah sweet Karma! Bob Neil went on to be headmaster and was bloody good at it by all accounts. I liked him.

luckyBatistuta
Some on here might recognise the teachers I’m talking about... I picked up a passenger recently but didn’t really have a good look at him when he got in and couldn’t see his face in the darkness of the back of the taxi. We were passing the new Boroughmuir school and got talking about it, with him telling me it was fantastic inside. I told him I preferred the old building, but was biased, as I attended the old Boroughmuir building. He then asked me why I didn’t recognise him. I had no idea who he was...it was only Mr Swan the maths teacher, probably the most famous Boroughmuir teacher there has been. Anyway, he’s alive, fit and well. He did tell me he had been visiting Mrs Kent, my old guidance teacher, who sadly now has dementia☹️ Edited May 16, 2022 by luckyBatistuta

Horatio Caine
Been reading through this thread again. It is indeed like a Heriots re-union! I was there 64-70 so remember many of the worthies mentioned - Arneil, Stone, McPhee, MacPherson, McCheyne (!) etc. Alan McDonald taught me German before he succeeded Dewar (`The Dome`). I also had `Bouncer` Stott for English. He was the father of Ken Stott. Ah, memories!! (it was all male at that time sadly, and I also just missed out on the fun with Ms Hesp!) I P Knightley
There's a lot of Heriots FPs on here but how do we stand with George Watson's boys? I'd have thought that the maroon blazer might have created a bit of an affinity. Or, maybe, they hated the school so much they wanted nothing to do with maroon? Not my school, btw. I just grew up thinking that Heriots v Watsons was the big rivalry; all observed from my perspective of being at Auggie's.
