Deek
Bit concerning. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11462595 The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Europe, warning of a "high threat" of attacks in countries including France and Germany.Security sources have warned of an al-Qaeda plan to send teams of gunmen to crowded places to kill civilians."Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers." Now you don't warn of specific threats like that without some substance.

Danny Wilde
Like I say I'm a cynic. Theres hardly a week goes by now without some escalation of the "threat level" at here or abroad. A week or so ago it was Irish terrorists who were going to bomb our asses. Its all very Orwellian/1984'ish. Snacks of scaremongering, black propaganda and attempts at trying to feck with our minds, our behaviours and our attitudes. Not often I'm in general agreement with Therapist but since theres sod all we can do about it anyway I will also continue to eat drink and be merry, whether its in George Street, Picadilly, Paris or Madrid. If we let them seriously change our way of life ( and our own government tries that sometimes with detention laws, id cards etc... ) then they have effectively won. Cancel the wedding anniversary trp to Paris ? Don't get on a bus ? Don't get on the underground ? Don't eat out in busy places ? Don't go shopping in Mayfair ? Don't go to a gig at the O2 ? Look out for Asians with rucksacks ? Don't get on a flight with a north-African ? Like I say, when governments issue these warnings, then just exactly what is Joe Punter meant to do in terms of behaviour or vigilence ? Live life normally and hope for the best I think. They can't kill all of us !

And if the most dangerous places are those frequented by foreigners and tourists then the majority of places on the continent are liable to be safer than central Edinburgh. Danny Wilde
I might not get the No 26 bus tomorrow in case they do a London style bus bomb attack. But if I walk to work then I might get blown up by an explosion on a passing No 44. Or I might get swiss-cheesed as the random victim of a machine gun or sniper attack along Princes Street. So I suppose I could stay and work from home. Thats assuming theres not a soft-target mortar attack on the tenements where I stay in London Road. So anyway. Feck them. The Doctor
If Deek says it's worth listening to, then believe me it is. I agree that we shouldn't change a single plan, but if you don't understand what it is to be more vigilant then you shouldn't be up this late on a school night. There's a big difference between 'be more paranoid' and 'be more vigilant'. If you see something that makes you suspicious, if you see someone acting in a suspicious way, don't turn a blind eye, don't ignore it and walk away, grass them right up. The flat next door suddenly fills up with half a dozen young Asian men, possibly bearded. Have a word with your local constabulary, just let them know that they're maybe worth a watch, you never know what your wee seemingly irrelevant piece of information might mean when it's put together with all the other wee seemingly irrelevant pieces of information. So if an asian bloke gets on my bus tomorrow - takes off his rucksack - and plops it in the luggage area at the front of the bus tomorrow .- and then gets out his mobile and makes a call in a language I don't understand - then I should do what exactly ? Keep a close eye in case he's sweating ? Or maybe sit behind him in case he's muttering his final prayer to Allah under his breath ? Or do a Smeaton and beat the crap out of him ? Alert the bus driver ? Call the police on my mobile ? Tell everyone to get off immediately ? Come on ! Pakistani security officials say that four of the dead were German nationals. They were killed by two missiles fired at a house in North Waziristan. A number of people were said to have been wounded. Security sources have closely linked the area to a reported al-Qaeda plot to attack European cities. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11477652 Police in France have arrested 12 people and seized guns and ammunition in anti-terrorism raids in the south of the country, officials say. Nine arrests were made in Marseille and the nearby town of Avignon, with three others held in a separate case. The raids come as security sources in some Western countries warn of a plot to attack public targets in Europe. PS I dont know anything, I just read the BBC news website.
