The problems today..

And there were alot..

1. Bouzid was terrible

2. JT had some good ideas but has the worst balance.

3. Jonsson was embarrassingly outplayed by Humphreys

4. Palazuelos couldn't see anything but the 5 yard ball

5. Stevenson..was he playing? Useless passenger.

6. We had one plan, hump balls to Kyle. When that didn't work we were stuck.

7. Rudi got brought on way too early and although he actually tried to pass the ball his positioning was bad and he was so short of fitness.

The question is, are those problems one offs or problems that will always exist? Thoughts please..

Personally although the players mentioned above were terrible, our problems lie at left-back. Both goals were Humphrey ripping Jonnsson to shreds. What Hearts need is a creative attacking midfielder and Centre-back if Big Zal isn't coming back.

Maybe playing Obua left back is a option.

Motherwell identified that Temps was a threat and made sure they dealt with him by making sure there were 2 players around him and no space.

we let Humphrey have 20+ yards to attack Johnsson and never offered Eggert any support whatsoever

Problems today were too numerous to mention but I'll have a go

1/ Team selection - JJ got it wrong

2/ Team tactics we played a sort of 3 5 2 but very badly (Thomson never got forward and Temps / Skacel never got back) Today we should have played 4-4-2 and Humphrey would never have got the room he did.

3/ Lack of effort from some and Bouzid Eggert Stevenson Palezuelos Clum simply did not turn up today

4/ The defending by our centre backs was poor but more alarmingly Motherwell chipped balls forward to their strikers and a/ our defenders let them boss us and b/ no Hearts midfielders bothered to get back to help them.

5/ Fear and reluctance to get forward in wide positions. As the game went on Souso and Thomson got deeper and deeper and relied more and more on punting balls from just inside their half to Kyle. Motherwell had no great threat up the left and was an opportunity to attack there.

6/ No creativity from midfield

7/ Motherwell wanted to win more than us and defended as a team in numbers to which point 6 caused us a headache.

We looked like a team that was just slung together. At half time a wise manager spotted our weaknesses and exploited them. Too many times we seem to get weaker as a game goes on.

So we need to put it behind us - no point in JJ whinging about not having a defence he needs to work on that and use his experience and knowledge to be positive. We need to do more attacking to take the pressure off the defence. We need to defend as a team starting from the front. A nice easy game next week to start the turn around! Come on you Hearts!

Eggert should have been much much closer to Humphrey.

In the cold light of today. IMO the defeat came about because we took off Temps allowing their left side the room and the freedom to attack the defence, aca falkick.

On reflection murderwell's defence was top o' the pops they controlled Suso and temps by crowding them out, allowing Kyle to win the high balls, easy to control as most were coming direct from Kello. the only good one came when we actually started to pass the ball about resulting in our one and only on target shot at goal. Difference in the team plans murderwell were there to defend and go home happy with a nil nil and if the opportunity arose attack, 11 times according to the BBC and scoring twice. They strung players across the park in a defencive line that would match the Some trenches. Communicating and regrouping when ever we posed a threat, ie Temps and Suso, Where as ours was all over the shop players caught too far up the park total shambles. Definitely a tactical battle won by pa broon.

JJ should have acted at the start of the second half as everyone could see we had plenty of the ball but doing nothing with it. Was it the players that started to use the hoofball? because its been a long time since I've seen it used as much in one game, had they run out of ideas and took it upon themselves to adopt that strategy or was it JJ's plan because I don't remember it being used that often in the first half.

Anyways, positives Kello is fast becoming the best goalie in the SPL. hard work from both Suso and Temps, thankless job with no help from their teammates. Maybe Kyle winning the aerial battle, but we do need someone to take advantage of that skill. At the moment there's nobody that can do that maybe when fitter Stephen Elliott will do the job. He did look OK but does need to get sharper.

The primary problem was once again, a half decent team owned the midfield. The 2 wide player option isn't working, and taking into account one of our central midfielders is a second division clogger there wasn't much hope.

Unfortunately, there was only 3 people in the ground that couln't see it and our like for like subs beggared belief.

There's been a lot of talk about our defensive problems on here - but we all know the reasons for the problems at the back i.e. two of our first choice defenders are out (3 yesterday if you include CT) and we do not have adequate back-up.

What is harder to explain, is how in three home games, you could count on one hand the number of saves that the opposition keeper has had to make (I can't remember a single one yesterday). The fact that we do not seem to have a problem making chances and scoring goals away from home makes the situation all the more bizarre. It seems to me the problem must be a tactical one i.e. when teams come to Tynecastle and play defensively, we have no idea how to break them down.

In the cold light of today. IMO the defeat came about because we took off Temps allowing their left side the room and the freedom to attack the defence....

Temps removal had little bearing on the final result (IMO) - he had little success against the 'Well right back, and rightly got hooked. Perhaps swapping wings with Suso for a bit might have been worth a try, but otherwise Temps got what he deserved. Though the same could have been said for Suso and many others in our team.

Our problematic left back position has brought an imbalance to the team, and more protection to our stand-in is required i.e. a left midfilder who tracks back - none was on offer yesterday. JJ should have tactically forseen this, and set his team accordingly.
