Boof Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 During an idle moment in a game of golf - and I've plenty of time for idle moments, but that's nother story - I got to thinking about this media obsession with trying to Irish-ify all things Sellik-minded. Brought about by their repetitious use of the made-up (by whom, I know not) term the Bhoys. Then I got to thinking about pronunciation. The phrase slainte bha is, as far as I'm aware, pronounced something along the lines of slanjuh vah. Given that the bh is pronounced as a v, shouldn't, then, bhoys be pronounced voys? But it was just an idle thought, though if there's to be a campaign to chortle knowingly as they mispronounce their words I'm claiming credit for starting it * Disclaimer * If, in fact, it is pronounced boys since the letter after the h is an o then I expect this to be one of the shorter JKB threads. Over to the Gaelic pronunciation experts...
