interista
LOL! I'm reeling here: how can I possibly come back from that? Not only did Stoke hoof their way to a defeat of 17th placed Norwich, but Inter even beat the mighty Canaries fifteen years ago. All hail both! You clearly have magic powers: being able to dismiss an article as 'vacuous' without even bothering to read it doesn't come naturally to the rest of us mere mortals. Unfortunately, such powers do not appear to extend to your team. Question: what do the following clubs have in common? Milan, Barcelona, Liverpool, Porto, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Ajax, Marseille, Red Star Belgrade, PSV, Steaua Bucharest, Hamburg, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Feyenoord, Celtic. That's right folks: they've all won the European Cup since Inter last managed it! And if Inter want to rid themselves of the jibes that they're chokers (seven Champions League appearances, one measly semi-final reached), that Serie A clearly isn't up to much at the moment, and that the reason they've not been Champions of Europe since 1965 (!) probably owes something to not being able to buy the referee (as they notoriously did during their 'golden era'), they need to win this competition - but in reality, they seem as far away as ever. Who knows: maybe that'll change once Mancini leaves in the summer - but there's a reason one of the golden rules of the betting fraternity is never to risk anything on Inter. They'll always find a way of letting you down. I don't need magic powers to guess that an article linked by you is likely to be as long winded and pompous as most of your posts. Thank you. super_vlad
My greatest memory as a Norwich fan, that. I thought we were better against Inter than we'd been in knocking out Bayern Munich: we had a ridiculously depleted, makeshift team out there in the Giuseppe Meazza (featuring one Gary Megson as sweeper!), but we played magnificently, took the game to them, and if Sutton and Ekoku hadn't squandered several great chances... ah well. Even the Inter officials described us as the best team they'd faced in years - plus, this was at a time when England had just failed to qualify for USA 94, and long ball football was all the rage. Within months, that whole experience seemed like a dream: it's sad knowing I'll surely never see Norwich play on a similar stage again, but that's the reality now. Inter, meanwhile, were absolutely weird that season: they had a number of top, top players, went on to win the trophy, but in Serie A, ended up 13th, after flirting with relegation! Bergkamp never really did himself justice there, but old shaduw spitz was always likely to do the business for someone: one of the top three signings of the Premier League era, I'd say. The reason why he had it so tough out there was because of the nutters fans and the media over there. He refued to talk to them and stay home with his wife which they found strange. Also i'm sure most of the inter team did not like him for some reason or other. If you look at the early 90's it is still werid to think of clubs like notts forest, villa, norwich etc playing in europe and for the likes of forest winning the europeon cup ! twice ! I really can not see thoses days ever coming back to those clubs as the game has change so much since the days of wolves changgling for the title etc.

I really can not see thoses days ever coming back to those clubs as the game has change so much since the days of wolves changgling for the title etc. Indeed - those days have gone forever. Ending the 50-50 sharing of gate receipts (which hitherto served as socialism in football) was the first step towards this, Murdoch's money was the second... and Bosman killed the chances of any smaller club challenging (including, in European terms, a great club such as Ajax) stone dead. It's amazing to think that between 1991 and 1993, Crystal Palace, Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich all finished 3rd - but it's a completely different world nowadays. Which leads me to two trivia questions (no cheating, folks!): 1. Who finished as the highest placed London club in the inaugural Premier League season of 1992/3? 2. Which British club went furthest in Europe during the final season before Bosman took full effect, 1995/6?
shaun.lawson
He and Rafa can share a taxi. Make a saving Heh! I'm really only teasing anyway: I've been massively impressed by Everton this season. The job Moyes has done has been sensational - and unlike in 04/5, say, you now play some really good stuff as well as being physical and combative. I don't have any beef with the Toffees, though I suspect many other Norwich fans feel differently. Two reasons: 1. In 1984/5, Milk Cup winners Norwich secured a draw at Stamford Bridge on what should've been the final day of the season. Unfortunately, back then, things weren't as synchronised as they are now, and ludicrously, Coventry still had three games in hand. If they won them all, they'd send us down instead - but few Canaries fans were particularly worried, seeing as the Sky Blues' final game was against Champions and Cup Winners' Cup winners Everton. But Cov won the first two - and then, unbelievably, faced you on a Sunday morning, with many of your team having got bladdered the night before. The result? 4-1 to Coventry! 2. We also played you in the FA Cup four seasons ago. Everton won 3-1, but afterwards, your CEO (I think) claimed that our fans had been guilty of racist chanting. It was complete bollocks: all we'd been doing was yelling "you fat *******!" at Wayne Rooney, but somehow, this had turned into something else in the mind of your CEO. The FA looked into it, found there was no case to answer, but did we get an apology from Everton? Of course not! A very, very poor show on your club's part. Maximus
Inter are a bunch of half hearted bottlers (they have been for decades) who played with 50 yards between their midfield and their forwards in both legs. I don't understand why they (and Milan) have not planned for the future - Cruz still getting a game, Zanetti past it, Viera just awful, Maicon who? Where is the future for this team? They need to invest in some quality youngsters not former greats on the cusp of retirement. Just as well Mancini is leaving aswell, his tactics stink, they need someone in who has a bit of vision and some new ideas. How they managed to get six points clear in the league is a mystery (bribes?).

Dave 1974
Liverpool FC are the most successful and famous of all British clubs. Fact. They also have the most lethal and natural striker in the world playing for them in Nando Torres. Inter were second best on both legs and are going to blow the Scudetto. Roma are easily the best footballing side in Italy as their recent thumping of Inter testifies. Hearts, Liverpool & Roma. The winners choice. Inter hit the post through Crespo then fell behind. Inter then went down to 10 men and struggled. Late equaliser after Mexes got himself sent off. Liverpool fans received this reputation way back in the '70s when they were regularly playing away in Europe. Liverpool FC were so successful that they were always travelling to new and exotic destinations and during that era when money wasn't quite as plentiful as it perhaps is now, the scousers used every means availible to them to enjoy their shopping 'excursions' to the designer boutiques in Italy etc. Liverpool supporters were amongst the first in Britain to be sporting designer Italian wear on the terraces. Sergio Tachinni, Armani etc. Of course, to label ALL Scousers as geezers and thieves is a false. Also the perceived connection with Celtic just doesn't exist. Celtic 'adopted' Liverpool's anthem for reasons best known to them and have always had more of a link with Manchester United than they do with the Reds. Do a bit of reasearch before farting out of your gob in future.

Think Inter will win the Scudetto as they are the best side in Italy and that's reflected in their current league position.
