The youngsters disappointingly went down 1-0 at Riccarton this morning. They never really got going against a physical Saints side, and only got on top in the last quater of the game.

Team

J Hamilton

Mullen McGowan C Hamilton Deland

McKenna (Walker) Thomson Prychynenko Holt D Smith

Petkus (Morton)

The first half was a scrappy affair of few chances with Hearts best effort coming from Prychynenko who hit the side net from a rehearsed corner set up by Mullen and Thomson. I can't recall Hamilton having to make a save in the 1st half, although his handling caused a few flutters in the defence.

Saints went ahead early in the 2nd half frome a quick break and a missed tackle from Prychynenko enabled Reynolds to find space in the right hand side of the box and he finished well with a shot across Hamilton into the far corner of the net.

Hearts picked up a bit after going behind and created a few chances. Walker had a couple of shots saved, Hamilton headed over when he should have at least hit the target and Thomson almost got on the end of a good passing movement. Morton had Hearts best effort late on when he dribbled his way through the Saints defence but his shot across the keeper went just wide of the post. Saints also had chances to finish off the game, the best of which was 4 on 1 break that they contrived to screw up.

Best for Hearts was Dylan McGowan who was a rock at the back and Danny Thomson was the best of the rest.

One consolation from today's result is that Hibs are now guaranteed to finish bottom of the table.

Unlucky. Cheers for the report. A disapointing result. Hopefully they will bounce back next weekend.
