jambovambo
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/mar/24/rodney-marsh-manchester-city I especially liked this bit ... "He played a mere nine times for England. There was a reason for that, too. When Alf Ramsey told him, "If you don't work harder I'll pull you off at half time," Marsh replied: "Crikey, Alf, at Manchester City all we get is an orange and a cup of tea." He was never picked again." Brilliant

jambovambo
This is the classic game with Best and Marsh playing against Hereford. What a display they put on there! Some of the things they try (and they don?t all come off) are quite staggering. Look for Marsh?s goal at 5:10, and Best and Marsh (same team) tacking each other around 7:14. Class the like of which we?ll never see again.
CraigSN1
Whilst playing in the states a journalist said to Marsh "You've been described as the white Pele" He replied "Thats not quite true, Pele is the black Rodney Marsh"

I.J
Rodney Marsh invented that joke?! WOW! Of course, anyone with a brain will know that the reason that he only got 9 caps was because he wasn't as good as several other players at the time. Not a popular view of course. His tsunami joke however was diamond!

world_3
Ouch - nasty tackle by Pele. Surprised at him . Pele was one hard sonofabitch, and he had a reputation for it too. Due to his brilliance in every game he played in he had a queue of players lining up to try and kick him off the park. That was in an era when defenders could get away with a hell of a lot more than they would do nowadays in the era of Messi and Ronaldo. Even back in the time of Maradona's prime it was a gentler game with more protection for attacking players. Pele was not to be messed with and took his revenge whenever he got the opportunity. George Best got the same kind of treatment in the 60s, he would finish every game with his whole of his body from head to toe covered in cuts and bruises. If you go back even further you can read stories about Hughie Gallacher sitting in the dressing room at half time crying with pain and with strips of flesh hanging off his legs. Still went out in the 2nd half and banged the goals in though.
