Why did we play Hibs at Ibrox Davie?

 

It wasn't another Scottish Cup semi where they failed to turn up again by chance was it?

I struck gold at Ibrox in the 80s because in my two visits there, we won both times; although the first visit was sullied slightly when my big brother battered me on the bus going. I remember we took a very big support that day; we had just gone top of the league, and the pitch was frozen. I also remember thinking that Neil Berry had a great game in midfield, and John Colquhoun gave big Peas and Gravy a torrid afternoon.

 

But I paid for that luck big time in the 90s. The best I saw were a few draws; 1-1 at the end of 1991/92; 2-2 in 93/94 and 2-2 in Feb 1998 when we blew it in the last minute of injury time. I was working til 3pm the day we 3-0 in 96.

 

The only other victories I witnessed at Ibrox was the BP Youth Cup (the only time I can recall outnumbering the home support), and the semi win over Falkirk. Yet I've seen us play Rangers at Ibrox with seven men and they couldn't get the ball off us.

 

When you look at the 3-0 win in 1996, we played with no fear at all. Colquhoun, Lawrence, Johnston - they just ran at Rangers that day. That's the key. We do it at Parkhead all the time.

went through from Edinburgh to see my sister who was working there at the time and was completely on my tod

 

tried to look cool (ie no emotion) when the goal went in as was surrounded by 'the people'...not much of a crowd there as I recall

 

didn't think we deserved it but who cares in those circumstances

That's a good point you make BB. We probably lack the confidence to due to the poor record. Only 4 wins in my life time, 2 ('88 and '96) of which I was at. Not much chance of a victory this weekend. We appear to win every 8 years their now. So looking forward to 2012!

Most enjoyable win was 2-0 in Dec 85. No TV at the time though, so people forget:

 

a) How good we were

How big our support was (both tiers if I remember right)

c) How ****ing cold it was.

 

I was working when Magic got his hat-trick.

 

It was ****ing cold at the semi vs Falkirk too.

 

I choose not to remember all the hammerings.

 

I do remember when we lost 3-2 in a classic - I think Mike Galloway scored a cracker for us.

My first trip to Ibrox too - though as I went through in the car with my Dad and Uncle, evaded the pre match kicking.

 

We had the whole Broomloan as I recall.

I was there in 1988 when we won 2-1. Getting a pen in the last 10 mins at 1-1through there was/still is unheard of. Robbo duly obliged. Other favourite time through there was stuffing Falkirk in the semi. Ah the good old days.

Lucky enough to be at the 3-0 games in 73 and 96 - although first time I was standing on the terrace with my Rangers flat mates, second time I was sitting in the Club Deck (more affluent by then) with one of them. Difficult to control the emotions but great experiences. Neil Pointon played a blinder in the 96 game too.

these are the games i was at from the list. the 1988 game was my first visit to ibrox. hearts had the top of the broomloan road end. someone threw a chair into the huns below so we never got the top again!

Was at the '85 Colquhoun game. We were going so well at the time that to be honest me and my mate were very confident right from kick-off. I resent the fact that pre-Souness Rangers were happy to give us all the space we needed, but now the allocation is scandalous and it's why I never go now.

I have a feeling that both Rangers and Celtics record home league defeats (possibly competitive defeats) are 0-5 to Hearts. Not a bad record to hold if true
