Another shocker was

1938-01-22 Sat Hibs 2 Edinburgh City 3 Scottish Cup H 8920 J Kelso;J Miller; Report--->

However it coincided with arguably Hearts worst ever defeat in the Cup. A 3-1 defeat at Dundee United who were at the bottom of Division 2 whilst Hearts were second in Div 1.

Of existing clubs who have won it only Queens Park and Dumbarton have had a longer wait. It will be 100 years for Dundee this year.

If results go our way this weekend, can we have a scottish cup parade type turn out in the meadows for a celebratory swally?

There's zero chance of them winning the Scottish Cup. The only things they've "achieved" in that tournament since 1902 are a record defeat in the final and exits at the hands of various diddy clubs who were clearly not overawed at the prospect of facing up to world class flair football. :biggrin:

I hadn't realised quite how many times we'd horsed them out the Cup :)

It is 13 wins to Hearts and 9 to Hibs.

NB Hibs won 5 of the first 6 ties. Since 1887, 13 wins for Hearts and 4 for Hibs.

I think it is doubtful as their form seems to be dipping amd Rangers have improved a lot, but you never know if they get a decent draw and home ties.

The two times Hearts have won the cup recently they nearly won the league in these seasons. Which shows form in the league carries over to the cup. This season for them Hibs are doing well in the league which gives them a reasonable chance for they cup. We have to make sure we stay in the cup to knock them out.

have to admit that 1999 seems a bit of a shocker.

1999-02-02 Tue Stirling Albion 2 Hibs 1 Scottish Cup A 3643 R Latapy;

They were in the 1st div but they were totally storming the league and had players like latapy and sauzee. Happy days anyway.

:frown:

The hype from Hibs leading up to that game was incredible. We had thumped them 5-1 five weeks earlier on New year's Day and the Hibby players were very vocal in asserting that 'there will be no repeat of New Year's Day' in the cup tie.

Their strategy, loudly declared in the newspapers, was to retain possession by passing the ball skilfully around. They said that Hearts wouldn't score because they would never get the ball.

Well, the best laid schemes and all that. Quite early in the game one of our lads intercepted a Hibby pass and buried the ball in the back of the net, and the rout was on!

The Hibbies were right. There was no repeat of the 5-1 New Year's Day score ... this time it was 5-0. That was a combined score of 10-1 in a space of only five weeks.

Happy days!

A scenario...

Hibs to get pumped tomorrow and thus we get to slag them a bit earlier .

Or...

Hibs to reach it all the way to the final and them get the dreams shatterd again.

Tough one...

The 5-1 defeat was the last one of the 'Famous Five' era (P12 W9 D1 L2 F30 A16). Bobby Johnstone (I think) was transferred just before that 5-0 Cup Tie. He did win the Cup the same day as Hearts in 1956 though.

Q What did Hearts and Man City have in common that day in 1956?

Bit like season 2005/6 when we scored 4 goals in three games against them.

Still proves they never learn. Did anyone realise that when they beat us 1-0 in the league cup final of season 2006/7 it was their first victory over us in the league cup. Dashing Bob S over on Hibs.net is quite correct when he says it is harder to win the league cup but only for Hibs. Afterall we had one it four times before they first won it in 1972. Then if Hibs ever win the Scottish Cup in his lifetime he wont be celebrating afterall the Scottish Cup according to him is the true Mickey Mouse competition. I can only assume he was on the shoe polish again when he typed that.

A list of teams who have won the Cup since 1902 puts the tramp's sorry record into perspective:

Rangers, Celtic, Third Lanark, Dundee, Fakirk, Kilmarnock, Partick Thistle, Morton, Airdrie (beat hibs in a final) , St.Mirren, East Fife, Clyde (beat hibs in a final) , Dunfermline, Aberdeen, Dundee United and of course ourselves.

No idea. Here's a guess: Both teams won their respective cups with a score of 3-1? Or both teams were winning the cup for the first time in 50 years?

Both played part of the game with ten men after losing a player to injury in the second half. Hearts John cummings and Man City the goalkeeper Bert Trautman(n). Both returned to the fray. John with stitches in a head wound. Bert with a broken neck but didnt realise it was a broken neck until after the game?

so since the wee team last won the big cup in 1902 . head to head results against hearts is hibs 0 hearts 8 (eight) must be the most one sided derby results in the world .

i once heard a story about hibs clearing a ***** encampment away from wasteground adjoining easter road,to which the ***** put a curse on hibs telling them they would never win the scottish cup in the next 100 years.
