"Beslija swings it into box: there's Makela!" - The costliest Hearts XI ever?

[Mods - can you please stick this in The Terrace, thanks]

I'm not sure if all these figures are 100% correct because I took a stab at one or two, nor do I know if it was the club or Kaunas that picked up the tab on Jose: but is this the most expensive line-up in Hearts' history?

Neimi (?400,000)

McPherson (?325,000)

Pertic (?500,000)

Goncalves (?700,000)

D. Ferguson (?750,000)

Cameron (?400,000 - including the sale of John Millar)

Tomashek (?500,000)

Beslija (?850,000)

Robertson (?700,000)

Makela (?500,000)

Baird (?350,000)

There might be other, more expensive players out there (in terms of transfer)so correct me if I'm wrong.

Did Fitzroy not cost about 400k?

I don't think so mate. I'm sure he was the cheap one out of the SMG money singings.

Saying that, I bet he was on a fair old wage.

He talked a good game but was pretty horrific.

Just checked, he cost 100k. Might get a place on the bench. :ninja:

Did Rudi not sign for 800k promptly before being sold on for ?1.6 million?

Didn't we pay ?500k for Larry - no doubt hoping to do the same?

Was Phil Stamp not an expensive buy?

The only thing i can find says he was a free, but i thought i could recall a transfer fee that was quite large,or am i mistaken?

Want to sign or want to sign for that price?

Ferguson was a very good player. Jose also is. Tomachek was very unlucky with injury but was a fine player too

Great player, just some folk didn't like him cause he didn't get hurled in ala Chuck Berry and some never liked him cause of his strong Rangers FC links.

I think Nade cost ?500k. He should replace Baird.

You're right.

Nade on for Baird.

Bednar cost kaunus 850k eur and Hearts probably paid them more when his registration was transferred. Looking at the money we have had to spend over the last few years we have seriously under achieved imo

Guess The Crowd
What about a team off highest sellers??

Fancy taking a stab at a starting xi at that?

How about this;

Gordon; Galloway, Berra, MacLaren, Naismith;

Colquhoun (?), Cameron, Skacel, McCann;

Velicka, Robertson.

(Can't remember what we got for JC- ?200k? - if not, Scott Crabbe, who's otherwise the sub). Quite a team.....

I'm sure there was a weird situation with him where Middlesbrough turned down ?1 million pounds from Millwall only to let him sign for us for free a year or so later. I wonder if there was a bit of beef between the two chairmen or something.

Then again my over active imagination may have just made this up. Though if that's all it can come up with I'm in deep trouble

I left out Velicka as he was on loan so Kaunas will have received the fee for him, although it was more than Robbo was sold for.

As well as the fact Velicka was sold as a Kaunas player.

I also think that somebody offered Middlesbrough a big fee for him a year or two before he joined us on a free. In my vague recollection it might have been because he refused to move south.

We definitely didn't pay them a fee but I'd guess that he got a big signing on fee.

I'd be interested to know how much Pinilla cost to buy out his contract with Lisbon and Inter

I came across him on Football Manager.... his ratings were all 80's and 90's :biggrin:

Pity he wasnt that good in real life!

You're quite correct, can't believe I forgot Hartley. (I couldn't remember what we got for MacPherson when he left first time - was it ?500K? 1992 I think?)

The official fee was ?1.3m but Rangers got some of it, I think around ?200k, back as there was a sell-on clause when they first sold him to us.

Did we or did we not pay HIV FC ?400k or so for Brian Hamilton in the early-mid 90s? My mind's playing tricks.

I think Brian Hamilton played in 21 of the '22 games in a row' ... for Hibs.

It was only when he joined the big team that he instantly got a taste of the good stuff.

The last of the 22 in a row was a draw IRRC.

Sorry mate, what i meant was, he only missed one game of that 22 sequence for Hibs (somewhere in the middle of the run probably)...

...but he won his first Hearts derby game in Jan 1995; 2-0. McPherson and Millar.
