"most people can find the info they are after faster on their phone."

Most people don't have that kind of phone!

I don't have a iphone. Most phones have at least a basic kind of internet access these days.

I've got an iPhone, but like you I also used Teletext. It may be old fashioned, and "low tech", but I still liked it and used it most days.

Presumably by 2012 when the roll out of the analog switch off is complete, there will be a "BBC Red Button" equivelent on other channels?

A lot of technology comes under what could be called "the Jolene Syndrome": just because you can.

On match days there are five options, in this order of preference:

1. Attending in person.

2. Watching on TV with an articulate commentator.

3. Listening on the radio.

4. Watching teletext / reading a phone or computer screen.

5. Being on holiday / arrested before the match / hospitalised etc.

If forced to choose between teletext and reading on a fecking b'astarding puta jodida computer screen, I would choose teletext because it is slower (more drama) and you are not so tempted to "graze" or roam freely looking at wikipedia. If you leave live scores on teletext to look up holidays or ring a dirty line, you have to wait ages to get back to it. This disciplines one and keeps one honest.

Also, does the BBC put all attendances (for a given league) together in one place? For those of us who easily prefer attendances to porn, this is a distinct disadvantage.

I'm a born Luddite, yes.

And I do not give a damn".

Carl Weathers

Loved it as a kid, pre internet.

Used to get the live games on screen whilst watching the antiques roadshow with my granny (okay, that was Ceefax).

Happy days.

Surely the simpler answer would be, considering that to use the teletext you have to be in front of a telly, and most folks tellys are in their home, and most homes have internet, that you'd be better to look it up on the computer?

that requires moving from the TV. As most people are lazy gits who seem to want a prehistoric info service kept just to save them getting up, that is not the obvious answer. Hope this helps.

It was never going to compete with modern technology but it sure was handy for the likes of European scores on a Sunday ( P 538 ) even the latest betting ( P 399 ) was ideal. Not everyone has the Internet or wants it.Newspaper headlines ( P 314 ) dated news about Hearts (P 531 ) and so on, passed many an hour on teletext :santa4:

No more BAMBOOZLE!!!!!

nothing worse when you got a question wrong and had to go back to the start! Especially if the right answer was the very last you could have chosen!

I did like Planet Sound as it was good for up-to-date music news and reviews.

You can't get that type of service on the BBC interactive service AFIK.

Football news was good as well, on ITV, as you got regional sport. What you get on Ceefax is much smaller for Scotland.

The youngsters here will never know the sheer tension and excitement of watching a Hearts game on teletext!

Those were the days!!!!

Waiting on the page to refresh or come back from the other pages!

Spent many a saturday glued to the Teletext in my youth!!!

Was once told that if you are going for a forecast on the dugs not to bother with the reverse, as consistently more than half the time the dug from the lower trap will win. Used to use teletext to verify this theory at different tracks around the UK from time to time. (It's true btw, generally around 70/30 split).

Useless due to the internet and the news channels now on 24/7 with free view.

WTF is freeview. Feck all unnecessary technological developments. Feck the "choice society".
