Beautiful rendition of a wonderful sacred composition which evokes all that is good, warm and friendly during this special season.

The White Cockade

Gaudete by Steeleye Span

Solstice Bells by Jethro Tull

Spaceman Came Travelling - Chris De Burgh

Most of the usual Xmas songs are great to listen to at this time of year

with the fire on, the christmas tree lights and a nice wee drink and some mince pies

and time to dig out the dvd's Its a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street (original version)

Johanes de Silentio

Second best - Greg Lake (a real spirit and atmosphere about that recording, imo)

The Best - John & Yoko :2thumbsup:

The Pogues & Kirsty - over-rated

Special mention for 'Thanks for Christmas' and 'Countdown To Christmas Party Time' by The Three Wise Men. :th_o:

I disagree with the OP. It's a good song, there's no denying, but it's not the best christmas song.

If we're allowing songs that briefly mention christmas despite not being about Santa, Snow, presents etc, there's a whole load that are better than Fairytale

  1. Darkness getting a kids choir to chant the words "Ring Piece" and "Bell End" has to be worth something
  2. Tom Waits - Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis tells a touching tale
  3. Lou Reed - Xmas in February
  4. The Manics - Ghost of Christmas

I also like Slade, Wizzard and the Wombling Merry Christmas.

Any just why is The Flying Pickets a Christmas song, other than the fact that it was a hit in December. Nothing to do with Christmas at all.

Quite partial to Wizzard, Slade etc. Great party songs at christmas time, once you've had few jars!

Jona Lewie slightly better IMO

Can't disagree with Fairytale of New York, but I just came across this again recently (yesterday actually). Tremendous

This....

is undoubtedly the best Christmas Song ever.

The Greedies singing Jingle Bells comes a close second with The Waitresses a respectable third. :santa3:
