CavySlaveJambo
Yeah. Looks like they'll be heading for administration then.
The Real Maroonblood
Hearts would never let that happen.
Martin_T
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/dec/03/portsmouth-missed-wages Interesting stuff. This is potentially bad news for Hearts believe it or not. English football is like a house of cards, if Portsmouth go into administration, the likes of West Ham will also go into administration. As many of these clubs have significant 'football' debts, this will lead other clubs to be out of pocket. The insane reliance on foreign billionaires down south was never going to be anything other than a short term fad. The ultimate result of all this will be massive deflationary forces on transfer fees and players. With HMFC's business model seemingly based on selling Academy talent for big transfer fees......not good news.

Martin_T
Martin_T have you any idea how many clubs in the EPL are owned by non British people? Looking at the Premiership table: Chelsea - Russian - Abramovich Manchester United - American - Glazers Liverpool - American - Hicks and Gillett Aston Villa - American - Randy Lerner Man City - Saudi - Al Mubarrak Sunderland - Irish - Quinn's consortium Fulham - Egyptian - Al Fayed Birmingham - Hong Kong Chinese - Carson Yeung West Ham - ?????? - ?????? * Used to be Icelandic, identity of current owners uncertain Portsmouth - Saudi - Al Farraj* 4th owner in as many months. Arsenal are of course at the centre of a takeover struggle between Stan Kroenke (American) and Alexander Usmanov (Uzbek). So over half the English top league is now owned by foreign owners, most of whom are from countries with no traditional interest in Football, who wont hesitate to make a hard headed decision when English football become less fashionable. Most of these clubs are almost entirely reliant on the subsidy provided by their owner.
Charlie-Brown
I think some sort of a crunch for some clubs in the Premiership & Championship is inevitable beginning with weakest financially and it will eventually mean a reduction in the level of wages & transfer fees - however footballer will still be paid in far in excess of any normal values and the best players will always command high transfer fees, transfer fees may even halve but they've been astronomical for some players, however with the money SKY & ESPN pump in wage/levels and transfer fees will still remain relatively high in terms of price/value. CavySlaveJambo
Got my sister keeping an ear out for how close to Administration Portsmouth are. But for an EPL team needing loans to pay wages for their squad is very worrying

CavySlaveJambo
Sister lives in Portsmouth and works at the QA. Plus she'll have all the local press headlines out and about to see on her way to work.
