A new CCTV Camera is up and running .

It sits on top of the Moredun high flats and can read a number plate at the royal ED.

I am all for this type of thing.

What do you think.??????.

What's it there for?

And before some smart arse comes in to say "SO PEOPLE CAN SEE STUF LOL DERP DERP"

I mean, is it to monitor traffic? Or general surveillance?

I think the Council say its for the safety of the Edinburgh .

I think its just so they can catch the the car park people at the Royal Ed.

They need to say why its there. If you contact the people controlling it they will tell you the purpose.

I am all for it. Health and Safety, an accident seen they can take steps to reduce the risk of it happening again. Crime prevention, providing evidence in the event of crime - all good stuff. If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about.

The Royal Ed? In Morningside? Surely not...the New Royal, maybe?

I've been in the CCTV control room at the City Chambers and I was genuinely astonished at how many cameras there are in Edinburgh.

There's hundreds of the things.

So what are they going to do with it when they build the RHSC, planned to be built on the site of carpark B, the main carpark in front of the RIE (how long does it have to be there for before people stop calling it the New Royal?)

I take it the camera is on Castleview.

I was dead against CCTV cameras until I was involved in a serious violent incident a few years ago. The coverage helped the police apprehend the guilty parties less than one street away. I had to view the footage and was amazed at the quality, not the fuzzy black and white stuff you see on telly but crisp colour images that followed the incident and zoomed in and out etc. Though I didn't like the bit when the baseball bat hit me on the napper.
