Got a virus on my computer, and need advice on what to do

Spybot is coming up with the following message:

Spybot has detected an important registry entry that has been changed

Category: System Startup user entry

Change: Value Added

Entry: Spybot deleting B9211

It's asking me wether to allow change or deny change. Anyone know what it is?

Also keep getting popups in the system tray, saying virus detected, click icon for assistance. Been ignoring them as I don't trust actually clicking them

What virus protection do you have installed at the moment?

IAt the moment, none

I forgot to reinstall it when I upgraded my stuff, and only had spybot. I never really used spybot anyway, but everything was going fine until about 1 hour ago when all the pop ups started happening

Latest popup in system tray says:

System performance monitor: warning

Summary

System performance slowed down by 47%

Internet speed decreased by 39%

Probable reason: Spyware applications

u have no virus protection and you need to ask for advice,GET PROTECTED SON in a jeremy kyle rant

I know it was stupid, I just totally forgot, and as I didn't have any problems, I never got reminded

I have now downloaded AVG and am doing a scan. I have also done 3 Spy Bot scans in last hour, and it keeps finding more stuff

The annoying "system" popups are still happening

All in all about 30-45 minutes work which should keep you pretty safe!

Smitfraudfix is the bollox for the pop-ups you're talking about.

Smit fraud is the one that's causing the problem

Spybot is finding it, but it keeps reappearing

Thanks for the links. Will get my computer defended to the hilt from now on!

Smitfraud's a count. It makes many, many copies of itself iirc. Maybe a system restore will help? I'm not much of an expert though.

I had probs when I first got my PC with no protection.

I use: AVG anti virus.

Zone Alarm firewall

Ad-aware SE

Spybot

(all free to download)

Also have C Cleaner and Advanced Windows Care to hand if I have a bunged up system.(watch out with these as inexperienced "custom" use can delete important registry items)

That link from Sweeney appears to have done the trick!

No more annoying pop-ups just now, and AVG and spy bot are now not showing anything

Thanks for all the help
