Well done John Greechan and Scottish fans have to do something

You will rarely find me saying that (as I hate the man, head sports writer of the Scottish Daily Mail, a man who hates Hearts) but just read a good article by him talking about the state of Scottish football.

-He hits the nail on the head that Scottish Managers are seriously let down by the SFA and the limited resources they have.

-The fact the SFA will ignore problems (as they have done over the last 20+ years.)

-Andy Roxbourgh actually pointed this out when he was manager but was ignored as Scotland were still in competitions.

-Gordon Strachan was interviewed for the Scotland job in 2004 but quickly refused when he said he had a massive plan for revolution of the game.

-The dutch are evening giving us advice and we ignore them, Dick Advocaat had many great ideas for Scotland based on Dutch models. THey saw academies put throughout Scotland for some cost but that threw the SFA off. Both Frank and Ronald De Boer were trying to point out what is wrong with Scottish football (including reluctance of players going abroad.)

-The fact that the U21s have no one who we can think should be fast-tracked into the first team because of ability.

-People often say "we dont have the great players we used to" but people never bother to ask why?

-Technique is lacking, we laud Scott Brown for his ability to unsettle oppoents but ignore the fact his passing is poor.

-Would Darren Fletcher be the player he is now had he been raised by an SPL team?

-The SFA equate dissension with disloyalty.

-When the Henry McLeish review comes out it will be patronised but ultimatly ignored.

I agree with him, there is so much that needs to be done with our game, and I fear the SFA will never change. They simply change manager and blame the previous manager. Its like (bear with me here) the owner of a hedge blaming the person who trims it and makes look nice for it looking poor when in fact the hedge is diseased and has been many years due to the failure of the owner to do anything about it.

It affects Hearts as well, Scottish players would be more valuable if there were more quality players, we had more talented youngsters entering our ranks (not that we dont already have quality.) We would have a system that would benefit us in the long term hopefully with a pyramid system of leagues with top clubs having feeder or B teams which allows their youngsters to have compeitive action. ANd So on.

My main point is that Scottish fans need to do something if we want to get out of the hole which Scottish football is in. The SFA will paint Wednesday as a glourious failure but it isn't we should of won the games before that match. Yes Burley is at fault for tactics but if he had better players it would be easier. The SFA also decided to schedule one game in September, and allow the Macedonians to put their home game during the hottest part of the day and not allow us water bottles. These failures damaged Scotland.

We need banners at Every game, both domestic and international calling for change. We need regular prostests at the SFA headquarters to show we have had enough. Things need to change and the Scottish fans are the ones who need to pressurise people to make changes.

All good points....and IMO all true

Surely this is tailor made for the Association of Suporters Clubs in Scotland (or whatever they are called) to get together and start a campaign, supporters of all clubs speaking as one voice...plus it shouldn't be too hard to get one (or more) high profile ex-players & journalists to spearhead the campaign...

Well said. It's gonna take years to overhaul the system, if we ever do. Even if a change is made, do we really think the natives will have the patience to see it through?

There needs to be a fundamental change in the mindset of the parents of the kids and the volunteers that run the game, taking away the focus of winning at all costs and embracing technique otherwise we will fall even further behind the "lesser" nations.

Lets face it, we have been punching above our level for many years now.

The SFA have little real power except to punish clubs where they see fit, they don't have too much money that they control, most of the real money/spending rests with the clubs and much of that with Rangers & Celtic .... allied to the fact that much of the SFA are self serving blazers with their noses in the trough who enjoy away day jollies and ensure jobs for the boys .... this permeates the whole organisation.
