I noticed this later in the post match stuff and I am sure it would have been an indirect free kick or perhaps a booking for pitenweem for playing the ball whilst not being on the field of play or some other bizarre decision by the referee. Game over. you could bet your everything you have that if he did pick it up they would have said that the ball had gone out of play.
