Buffalo Bill

Hibs have won two Scottish Cups.

We have won seven.

That's like comparing a man with a seven inch willy to a man with a two inch willy.

I too would be feel inferior if I had only won two Scottish Cups.

Here it is:

HEARTS are set to avoid court action to force the club into administration after Tynecastle bosses settled their unpaid debts with the taxman.

A petition for a "wind-up" action had been lodged against the Tynecastle club on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) at the Court of Session last month. But court officials confirmed that a motion to have the petition dismissed will be heard on Tuesday after club bosses paid up.

The level of the debt is still unknown.

The legal action could ultimately have led to Hearts being forced to sell assets or even being forced to cease trading altogether.

A spokesman for HMRC' date=' who said the action had been taken as a "last resort," confirmed there would be no need to take the issue further.

Supporters' groups today welcomed the news that the club had avoided their day in court, but said the dispute had provided an indication of the financial difficulties now facing the Scottish game.

Lothians MSP George Foulkes, a former Hearts chairman, said HMRC's approach appeared to be "better late than never".

He said: "This is what I expected to happen and follows the previous pattern of how these things are dealt with.

"It shows (club director) Sergejus Fedotovas is true to his word.

"I have been looking into this issue and it would be wrong to single out Hearts as the only ones who let things go to the wire. I'm afraid HMRC have got a protocol they work on now with football clubs. The philosophy can be summed up as 'better late than never'."

Lord Foulkes said fans' attention would now turn to Hearts' clash against Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb in the fourth qualifying round for the Europa League after the draw yesterday.

Derek Watson, chairman of the Hearts Supporters Trust, said supporters were satisfied with the way the club had handled the threat of legal action.

He said: "I was quite happy with what Mr Fedotovas said at the time. It's not just the current regime that acts like this, Hearts over the years have paid bills at the last minute. This just seems to be the way football is at the moment.

"I'm concerned about the whole state of the Scottish game, as most people are, because we can't compete with teams south of the border.

"It's about trying to do the best we can in the current circumstances."

Hearts would have faced a ten-point deduction from the Scottish Premier League if it had gone into administration, a penalty previously handed out to Gretna FC.

However, the club is known to have avoided similar forms of legal action in the past by settling bills before reaching court.

Earlier this year, Hearts said it had managed to reduce its overall debt by 16 per cent from ?36.25 million to ?30.48m.

The club blamed an administrative glitch for problems paying players' wages last season and also faced having its water cut off after reportedly running up thousands of pounds in unpaid bills.

A spokesman for the club declined to comment. [/quote']

Fair enough but as the original story not front page news if you ask me. The journalism still ****es me off though.

Break the report down and it's essentially based upon one statement of fact from the HMRC, the opinion of concerned MP with knowledge of the club and supporters spokesman. Nothing wrong in that itself but the article does not fully explain what was actually going on here, it doesn't look for precedent.

For example how many of these type of actions does the HMRC take every day? How often do they go any further. George Foulkes mentioned the general approach of the HMRC towards football clubs these days. So it's not unique to Hearts then? Again explain.

The article then goes on to conjecture the what ifs. What if the potentially sensational story had happened? Well then there might have been something to splash a headline about!

The story of the boy who cried wolf. If there was something afoot I've seen so many bull**** reports now that I don't trust most news reports or their sincerity and that's sad. It's especially sad of the Scotsman which I once loved.

the hibsman along with it's sister paper the evening hobo have become a laughing stock over the past few years. Both are clearly infected with large numbers of hobos. I noticed that last Wednesday the evening hobo didn't even carry a report on the Hearts v Bolton game.
