Mon the lads.

Is this a must win for staying in contention for the league?

Yes. Including today, Hibs have 2 games left and 44 point. We have 4 games left and 37 points. We need to win them all.

Hearts are 7 pts behind Hibs with 2 games in hand and of course we play Hibs today. If Hearts win then they can beat Hibs points total if we win our remaining 3 games - if Hearts draw then they need Hibs to lose their final game v Motherwell as well as take maximum points ourselves or Hibs to draw their last game and make good the 4 goal difference in our 3 remaining games - if Hibs win today then they would have 47 pts and the most we could get would be 46 pts so we'd be fighting for 2nd place at best.

So, how have your team performed in the 1st half?

They may have performed well but as I am not at the game I can not tell you. Problem is they are still one down.

Thanks for asking.

There was no report on last week's Hearts win in the Evening News. Interesting to see if that is also the case if Hibs win today.

1-1 ft according to flumps.net - leaves our kids with a fighting chance if Hibs drop any points away to Motherwell in their final game......no bad result considering we only had 10 men and a goal down.....Hearts U19 win 4-2 on aggregate over the 2 games last week & this week and unbeaten against the Cretins. :)

makes it interesting. It is now out of Hearts hands for the league. Hearts have three games left and 7 pts behind Hibs who have 1 game left. Hearts need to win all their last three games, Hibs just need to win their last one.

If hearts win last three and Hibs draw their last then Hearts win the league.

Unlikely but 2nd place will get us Champions League so it's all good. :sorcerer:

At least it keeps us in with a shout and from looking at the table, Motherwell have had a decent season so they could take points off Hibs especially as all the pressure will be on them.

Motherwell beat 2nd place Rangers 2-0 last weekend so it won't be an easy game for the wee muppets.

Just back from the wee wee teams training centre. Decent set up there.

Team lined up 4-5-1

Ridgers

C Thompson D McGowan Balatoni Brown

Novikovas Husband Stewart (Wallace) Mulrooney (Cowan) Robinson

Glen

A gritty performance in the 2nd half, particularly after going down to 10 men when Wallace was red carded for an over the ball challenge. Cowan scored with around 10 mins left heading in from a Novikovas corner.

Hearts started slowly, or probably more accurately Hibs were more up for it. Hearts were coming out second best in every challenge. Hibs scored after a cross from the right eluded the central defenders and Bell (I think) scored from 6 yards.

The game settled down a little after the goal with hearts seeing more of the ball but not creating much. A turning point in the game happened midway through the half when Glen eluded the centre back at the edge of the box and was hacked down. It was a clear red card but the ref bottled it and only gave a yellow. That was to be the way the game was going to continue with the ref being very fussy about every little challenge and managed to annoy both sets of players and fans.

Hibs probably had the best of the chances with Hearts best opportunities being a free kick from Thomson and a sclaffed effort from Novikovas.

Wallace came on for Stewart at half time after Stewart had taken a bang on the nose towards the end of the first half.

The second half continued to be be a tousy affair, not helped by the ref. Wallace then got himself sent off for a lunge at Welsh. It was a red card offence but no worse that the first half challenge on Glen. Hearts then got the bit beween their teeth and worked so much harder and finally got some reward with Cowan's goal.

Hearts fell off the pace a little after the equaliser and Hibs had a few chances to win it late on but some good defending and poor finishing saw the game end level.

Overall Hibs probably deserved to win on chances, but should really have been playing with 10 men for the last hour themselves.

Best for Hearts were Husband and Ridgers

Would agree with your summary.

I wasn't happy with the ref (whats new)

I was close to the red card that Wallace got, and shouted to the ref - consistency in your decisions. He bottled the first half incident. Should have been a red card for the big Hibs defender.

yup, I do remember you taking one of them to task last season. He couldn't quite understand what was wrong with slicing through a player who is just about to take a free kick. If hibs fans are like that in all U19s games then they are complete

My ratings for what they are worth

Ridgers 8 - Dealt competently with everything that came his way. Good handling. One excellent save late on.

Thomson 6 - Fine defensively, but didn't get forward as much as usual. Set pieces not up to his normal standard. (one free kick in five on target)

McGowan 7 - Struggled initially but got better as the game progressed. A couple of good blocks / clearances late on.

Balatoni 6 - Like McGowan looked out of touch for first 20 mins or so. Tackling fine, but not dominant enough on cross balls.

Brown 7 - Decent performance on his weaker left side. didn't get much help defensively when Novikovas was on the left.

Novikovas 5 - Probably the worst I've seen him play. Maybe a bit too physical for him. His touch was off and gave away too many needless fouls.

Husband 8 - Best in a Hearts jersey. At the centre of most of Hearts good play. Kept possession pretty well in the circumstances.

Stewart 5 - Only lasted 45 mins after taking a sore one on the nose. Struggled along with most of the team early on and didn't get into his normal short passing game.

Mulrooney 5 - Another who seemed out of step with the pace and the physical nature of the game. Pretty anonymous throughout. Subbed by Cowan as Hearts chased the game.

Robinson 6 - Started out wide with little impact. Improved once he was switched to a more central role. Put himself about with some solid challenges, which were incorrectly punished on occasions.

Glen 6 - Not involved early on and unable to hold the ball up. Nice turn on the Centre Back should have seen the Hobo sent off. Improved when he started playing the channels. Nice block on the keeper at Cowan's goal.

Subs

Wallace 2.5 - Lively and prepared to take people on. Missed one decent chance from 12 yards. Half marks for getting sent off for a stupid challenge.

Cowan 5 - Only had 20 mins but showed good determination. Bonus point for the goal.

Referee 0 - Total tosser from the moment he bottled the red card for the challenge on Glen. Got a deserved roasting from the fans and players of both sides, so is guaranteed to make the step up to the SPL.

Just had a look at your link John. If we are to win the u19 league they are certainly trying to make it as difficult as possible for us. We play ICT away on 24 April. Then on the 8th May we are due to play Falkirk at home and Aberdeen away on the same day. Seems a tad unfair, even if they are young fit laddies.

Husband always seems to be the one everyone mentions.......

Physically he's the biggest / most developed of the U19 kids.

Interesting that were top goalscorers (based on goal average as we've played less games) in the league with an average 2.11 goals a game considering a 4-5-1 formation is a negative one according to some.

- Top 5 offensive teams

Num. Host.----------Goals Goals/match

1. Hibernian U19---- 42 2.00

2. Motherwell U19-- 40 1.90

3. Hearts U19-------38 2.11

4. Rangers U19----- 33 1.65

5. Inverness CT U19 23 1.35

That was my first look at under 19's.

Husband was best player on park by a mile, composed and great on the ball.

The ref was clueless, although it looked like he was intimadated by the hobo's........there was a load of them and they confirmed what we already know.......total vermin. On the ref's case all game and abused the hearts players.....fair enough on a normal game but not under 19's. When Wallace was sent off, the abuse he got was embarrising.

Fair play to Darren Murray, he made the right changes and you wouldnt have know we were down to ten men 2nd half. Good to see a big Hearts man like Darren doing such a good job.

Mark Cowan is the top goalscorer in the u/19s league. I find it very strange he started on the bench for the 2 highly important games against Hibs. The highlights for previous games show that he is a top gun yet other players get the hype.
