gooders
Which coach or tactician says this is a good idea? Every week at Tynecastle you see Wallace or Neilson giving a winger or attacking midfielder 20 yards of a start because they go in support of the centre backs. Tonight Alexander did it in the first half and Robben riped him a new one. Surely if you stand within 5 yards of the man, when the ball is on the other side of the field you have effectively taken him out of the attacking equation. Otherwide your opponents would have to spray a 50 yard ball so precisely it would be incredible. Rant over, please discuss.

By standing 5 yards away from the man you leave loads of space between you and your centre half which is really dangerous. It also would mean you couldnt tuck in and cover for crosses into the box. bigwull22
Tucking in is a great idea on a small pitch like Tynecastle, but thats why it went wrong when we played at Murrayfield on a massive pitch.

The theory is you should have plenty of time to get across by the time the ball is switched from one wing to the other. The full back has to tuck in to cover any cross that goes to the back post. Nothing wrong with the system IMO but plenty wrong with the players. Alexander is far to old to playing at this level.

moonraker
Far too pish as well. Totaly agree, he is nowhere near as old as Jari Litmanen who looked superb against Wales. It is his pishness that is the problem. (No Pat Stanton reference intended)
