Say What Again
BBC understands that Premiership teams are looking to extend the season to 39 games - playing 10 games overseas. Was our own Pieman a visionary? He muted the idea of playing in Australia didn't he? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/7232390.stm
JamboJen
Financially it makes sense. They could earn loads from it. But from a football pont of view I don't like it. Who cares about Saturday 3pm kick offs when you have to worry about whether your next game is even in the country. Just because we had a NFL game in the UK doesn't mean we should follow suit. American sport has always been far to commercialised. Just watch BASEketball

Maximus
Now the EPL want to play games abroad. To even conceive such an idea confirms to me that football as a sport is in rapid decline, it's a fecking circus now. Money has ruined the sport and taken it away from the fans. I don't know why we even still bother, the whole sport has been devalued to such an extent that clubs are almost like franchises now, they have so little association with their local areas that there is nothing left for the fans to identify with. I have felt this about Hearts for the last 2 years and it's happening to other clubs all over the world. Where will it all end? It's time for the fans to start vote with their feet imo and stop rewarding the muppets who are ripping them off and ruining the sport.
hoody_06
i think it would only work with the big 4 playing each other also the big 4 against tottenham and everton, maybe pompey and man city, the rest of the epl games a pash

Mr Romanov Saviour of HMFC
It's fecking ridiculous and will signal the death of football as we know it. All about the money, don't give a **** about the loyal supporters.
djf
Why not do a survey of all the ST holders in the Premiership. If they lose then they never mention such a stupid idea again.
bistokid
The greed is just ridiculous. The Premiership is already the richest league in the world and they are just trying to wring every last drop of income. Fans are already becoming alientated from there local team but this could be the straw that breaks the camels back. There could be an almighty backlash, and i certainly hope there is if they go ahead with this.
BangkokHearts
Greed pure and simple. Premiership teams have been playing pre-season tournaments abroad for a while now. A few years ago Man City, Bolton and Everton played in a mini tournament against the Thai U23 side and attendences were pretty dismal. The whole thing will be a farce. BangkokHearts
Since CPR suggested we play in Oz they now have a fairly decent league with attendences to match the SPL. With the games going to the highest bidder who is going to want Wigan v. QPR or Derby v. Blackburn? I can just imagine the already morgue-like atmosphere in a foreign stadium with a couple of thousand people watching these 'big draws'! Fact is nobody overseas is remotely interested in anyone outside the top four.
Guest Tynie Bubbles
Is the the same EPL who are always moaning about too many games and fixture congestion? Hmm ... thought so. I see they're talking about the top five teams being seeded so they don't play each other ... and its being touted as an idea for smaller clubs in the Premier League to build up there overseas profile. Aye right! Manchester United v Derby County in Beijing, is really going to lead to Derby getting a big merchandise franchise over there isn't it. Greed feeding more greed. portobellojambo1
Why not do a survey of all the ST holders in the Premiership. If they lose then they never mention such a stupid idea again. Seems like a ludicrous suggestion, why would they want to ask the people who have supported the clubs forever and a day. As has been said football is rapidly becoming engulfed in money, it is all about making money now, by whatever means, the man who turns up every week is the last person who will be consulted with regards to something like this. Nelly Terraces
Football as I know it is almost dead. You're better off watching a game down the laegues, at least then you'd have a connection with the club. Bit like the Man U lads last did with Real Utd. That is a top effort by real fans and not premier daytrippers/gloryhunters.

TheSandman
This whole thing is a non starter, on most of the EPL teams forums the fans are dead against it. They brand it as a rape of the game. They're right English football is now all to do with money since SKY came in. As for Bolton V Birmingham in Sydney? No way- The Gaza strip would suit me better. neobis
All the new owners of the EPL clubs are not fans of the clubs they own. So when something like this, that can earn (clubs like Derby) 10% of their annual earnings, are obviously interested as these new owners are in it to make MONEY. Benzinho
Putting aside the ridiculous idea of playing these games abroad, the worst idea of this whole thing is playing a 39th game which is decided by a draw. That's going to throw up all sorts of problems. Imagine if there are 2 teams on level points at the edge of the relegation zone, one team draws Man U,who need to win to win the league, the other draws a mid table team who's season finished weeks ago and have been clearly winding down ever since. Given the financial implications of relegation from the premiership, and the relative chances of getting a result in both games, the idea of your survival depending on a draw to see who you play is just ludicrous! inside right
Think you'll find this thrown out as UEFA will then throw the English teams out of champions league - only allowed to play league matches in the country where the league is registered (otherwise McCann would have moved Smelltic to Dublin). maroontothemax
Seeing as it's already hard enough to get a ticket to see one of the big 4 play, it's not a great idea to pretty much remove 10 games from the fixture list. If I supported the club I would be furious that someone who has just heard of the team has more of a chance to see them live than i do

JamboAl
The SFA are watching with interest! Can you imagine us playing Rangers in say Korea or Australia or wherever. Would they take out a weegie ref and linos or would they have local neutral refs. And would Gordon Smith need to attend the game on a freebie?
