Not that Scots are to be nurtured at the expense of all else. Laszlo, for instance, is raving about a 17-year-old midfielder he has signed from Portugal, "really a very gifted player

Anybody got any ideas?

So, to sum up, the pyramid and all its trappings were shee-ite.

Either that or Laszlo's a fully paid-up member of the racist, anti-Lithuanian, pitchfork-carrying brigade.

The articles describes a system based primarily on home grown players and supplemented by northern europeans who have a similar mentality - that sounds very like Hearts Academy plus others including Kaunas players & Icelandic's etc - plus Aussie's who have a shared language & culture - Romanov said in October 2006 he wanted a team built using the clubs own resources and featuring 70% Scottish / British players....and with MacDonald, Neilson, Wallace, Thomson, Berra, Jonsson, Driver, Elliot, Mole & Glen having all featured in the team and others like McGowan, Templeton, Brown & others having been on the fringes of the first team squad the club has been moving towards this for a while now.

Exactly, Charlie. The article is nothing more or less than a ringing endorsement of the way things have been done over the last three years.

Have they not got mixed up i have read bits of this interview elsewhere and it is the 17 year old from Lithuania that plays the number 10 position(think that's in the hole)that Csaba was raving about.

Hearts have been increasing the funding and activities of the Academy for the last 3 years and more recently we have started to see some benefit of this with players moving towards the first team squad whilst others like Berra, Driver, Wallace & Jonsson have developed and become established members of the first team squad in that time period, the seeds of what we are starting to see now were planted back then even if the benefits we not of any immediate benefit or noticeable at first team level but the club have been gearing towards a more youthful policy ever since Webster & Skacel were replaced by giving Berra & Driver their opportunities.

What do you think Csaba means when he says: "In the past, there were too many times when it was up and down"?

Do you think he is suggesting the existence of the seamless continuum you appear to have dreamt up? Or do you think he is saying the acquisition and nurturing of players has been a mess?

What Iam saying is the club have been moving towards this direction since summer 2006 but all youth policies take time to bear fruit - I never claimed it was a seamless continuum however the things that Csaba is saying now are very similar to things Romanov was saying back in 2006 with greater emphasis on home grown talent & opportunities for young players - so to me it seems that Romanov & Csaba have very similar thoughts on the best strategy for Hearts - as with all things it is down to the quality of implementation but the strategic direction isn't a great diversion of what's already been underway.

The club has been making signings like Ridgers, Templeton, Husband, Rapnik, Copil, Kostadinov, the McGowans & other Aussie kids, Jonsson & the other Icelandics - now not all of these players will make the grade but the aim to sign promising young talent to supplement our own Riccarton reared kids has been happening consistently for several years now.

If anything I would say the ideas of John Murray and the Academy staff including previous staff like McGlynn & Frail have gradually been coming more to the fore rather than any great revalations from Romanov or Csaba - simply put producing as many of our own players and supplementing them with low-cost talents & prospects & trying to spot them early has always been the most sustainable way for Hearts to make progress and build teams.

My view is that nothing could be further from the truth. Csaba recognises that Romanov's way of running a football team is a crock of merde and he is starting to re-introduce common sense into the footballing side of HMFC - consistency of selection, selection (mostly) on merit, emphasising the nurturing of Scottish and British youth players who know the footballing culture rather than blocking their path with duds and journeymen from ***. In other words, a sensible and low-key approach a million miles removed from the bluster and hyperbole of the dear leader in 2005-6.

The club were moving in that direction long before that. It was after all CPR who built Riccarton. We might have been closer to the ultimate goal had romonov not unrealistically raised expectations (and the wage bill) on his arrival.

You are talking about the first team - iam talking about the youth policy - the youth policy has been continuing in the same direction for at least 3 years now and the path Csaba describes in the article is not any diversion from what has already been happening - the only difference is some of these kids are now approaching first team level....but regardless previously I didn't see any attempt to block the progress of Berra, Driver, Jonsson, Wallace, Elliot, Mole etc and all have featured a lot in the team, some undoubtedly too many times especially whilst in poor form......regards Kaunas players Iam certain we will continue to take players from that club and if they are good enough they will play in Csaba's teams.

It seems that the article is talking about both - its scope is certainly not confined to the youth set-up alone.

You still haven't said what you thought Csaba meant by his "up and down" quote. I think he's probably referring to major disappointment over some of the supposed prodigies we've had in the youth teams who have failed to develop their talent, as well as the catastrophic explosion in squad numbers that has done so much to erode morale at first-team level since January 2006. But in reality he could be referring to any number of things.

Now it could be that Romanov experienced some kind of epiphany at the end of last season when he saw the result of his way of doing things over a three-season period and that he is now willing to leave football matters to football people. Let's hope so.

It?s the Lithuanian kid who was offered a contract at Benfica I think but either turned it down or got injured - Novikovas or something like that.
