Mistake in our defence

After watching the Killie & Iverness games on Alba I have noticed that when opposition teams get free kicks on the angle of the box instead of moving out and catching them offside we tend to fall back towards our goal area and clog up around the keeper. Today was a prime example with there first goal.

The changes in the offside law make any attempts at an offside trap fraught with danger - Aberdeen's 2nd goal against Celtic last week being a perfect example where a late runner was given onside & he scored despite the presence of several 'offside' team-mates including Zander Diamond who attempted to header the ball but missed...the goal was given.

You want us to try and catch people offside from an opponents free kick?

That is kamikazi stuff with a lot of luck involved and a belief that linesmen are competent.

Correct!

Inverness 1st goal was a well worked free kick from their perspective, the bulk of their runners made for the 6 yard box & our defence followed whilst the ball was then curled in short to a man who'd stepped out to score from approx 10 yards catching us unawares - a good tactical move though and one our defence will have to be alert to in future games.
