I'm not sure if Maroon is a scottish word and Claret is more frequently used. Possibly the radio presenter was getting confused between mauve and maroon? When I first came down to London about 2 years ago, I couldn't believe how much people knew about the Jambos. I guess it was close to when we had a wee run at the league etc, but still was surprised when folks named players, Ramanov etc. Mind you i teach foreigners and even the big footy fans usually haven;t really heard of us!!
