"His defence agent, Kathleen More, told the court that her client was driving home in a rental car at the time of the offence as his own car was in the garage being repaired.

She said: "He had the use of a rental car which he was not accustomed to."

Riordan, who turns 26 on Friday, appeared in the dock wearing a charcoal grey suit and tie and black shirt.

Anyone else picturing the court scene in Trainspotting?

What I don't understand is how the News can describe him as a Celtic star, he hardly played for them, and very little about his connection to Hibs. Is everybody that plays football a star in the EN's opinion.

Football star drove BMW at 94mph

Derek Riordan

The Hibs star admitted speeding at 94mph on the motorway

Hibernian striker Derek Riordan has been fined ?300 after he admitted driving at 94mph on a motorway.

The football player was caught breaking the 70mph limit on a half-mile stretch of the westbound M9 near Falkirk on 15 July last year.

Falkirk District Court heard he was driving an "extremely high performance" BMW 6 series car at the time.

In addition to the fine, the former Celtic star was also given three penalty points on his licence.

Procurator fiscal depute Emma White told the court that the offence happened at 2133 BST and described conditions at the time as being daylight, with the weather sunny and dry.:108years:

Riordan, who turns 26 on Friday, appeared in the dock wearing a charcoal grey suit and tie and black shirt.(still in mourning over the cup defeat i see)

JP Raymond Montgomery asked him: "That is quite a high speed is it not? You are going to be more careful in the future I take it?"

Riordan replied: "Yes".;)

"It was more powerful than he gave it credit for.:108years:

"It was a long stretch of road and the speed crept up without him really recognising that.":108years:

Riordan lives in Airth near Falkirk.

His lawyer said the footballer needed his licence to drive to the Hibs stadium at Easter Road in Edinburgh, and to the club's training ground.:108years:

It was also important that he be able to drive for his personal safety, she said, as he was a relatively high-profile figure in Edinburgh.

She said: "It is far more desirable that he be able to travel in his own car than suffer taunts by travelling on public transport.":108years:

The lawyer said her client apologised for his actions. "It has been a lesson learned and he has been much more careful on the roads now."

JP Montgomery said he took into account Riordan's early guilty plea and said he would have fined him ?400 but reduced it to ?300 because of the early plea.

Think there is a chance he could be banned like his night club bans if he gets caught again, some of his defence excuses are hilarious ,bet she is a hobo.

Fined and penalty points on his licence for speeding - he must be on first name terms with the cops now.

it'll be the only 3 points he'll be getting this week
