Eggo
Exactly what do the inferior mob mean by referring to us as yams? Rhyming slang? even that seems nonsensical. Sweet potato is the definition on google. So can anyone come up with a sensible answer to this...even Hobos can reply! To me it means nothing at all tbh,but I may be missing something:o

To me it means nothing at all tbh,but I may be missing something:o Cos we're in Europe more often than them they feel the need to pronounce the J like Y, like in Spain then shortening yambos to yams. Either that or Its because they dont have teeth so struggle with the J so just say Y.
Stanley_
I think Yam and Hobo are both crap insults but at least Hobo actually means something insulting. Yam is the strangest thing I've ever heard being used as an insult.

Gizmo
I'm sure I remember seeing the reasoning behind this on wibblewibble.net and it was thought up as a ****-poor riposte to their then new nickname of hobos. Thing is, hobos originated from a spell-checker hint or correction, didn't it - making it all the more ironic and funny given it suits so many of their manky fans. In a similar bout of green cheese, you'll recall their attempt to get a catchy nick-name for themselves similar to our 'jam tarts' and, of course, whilst jam tarts are sweet and tasty, they opted for 'cabbage and ribs'! Ironically, of course, the type of stinking, cheapskate meal fit for hobos!
redm
I'm just wondering what they think yams actually are, because the most exotic vegetables found in Leith are usually chips. And if I rememer rightly, SmcD is quite openly of hobo persuasion so it's a bit of a surprise that he seems so vague on the nickname history front. But heyho, I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of it eventually....
