The SFA Cock up again....

Rawrrrrrrr

Recommended Posts

This time by telling Elgin city an ineligible player was allowed to play.

Basically in the Elgin V Spartans game at the weekend, Elgin fielded a GK signed on loan they day before.

SFA rules state that a player must have been registered on the original date it was meant to be played which he wasnt

Elgin claim they asked in advance and got the OK.

SFA now meeting on Thursday to discuss sanctions, Spartans demanding a replay at the least.

Similar happened last season with Brechin - they played 2 players ineligible, the SFA had a hearing for one of them and ordered a replay, then realised later a second player was ineligible and kicked them out.

You think the SFA would have learnt lessons.

Will be interesting to see what happens given they gave out the wron information.

IIRC last season Brechin were at fault. This time it sounds like the SFA are at fault themselves...What a bunch of incompetent fools they are - from the top right the way down. Will be interesting to see how they dig themselves out of this one...

they possibly have a get-out by insisting that advice sought is superceded by the clubs' own responsibilities to know the rules for themselves, and that advice sought by clubs is for information only... not an official 'rubber stamp'.

something along those lines.

Thats exactly the outcome I expect to hear, still embarassing for them.

Also states you need to report breaches to the match official on the day, but this is the best bit, teams not normally released to opposition til about 90 minutes before KO and the SFA Registrations office closes at 1230pm preventing clubs verifying the facts for complaints

They really are incompetent feckers:laugh:

I'll wager they hide behind that.

this was the only game that done my coupon, will I get my winnings now?

:mw_rolleyes:

I would imagine depending of SFA findings the game will either be void or the replay result counts - at least that would be fair.

Someone who actually knows about betting will probably be able to confirm how the bookies get out of paying though

Aye, but they took their punishment and the players had to hand back their medals. In this instance, they got Elgin's team lines at 2.20pm! so had very little time to do anything, let alone check whether the player was eligible. Anyway, I think a replay is the propoer outcome, along with a massive apology from the SFA to Elgin.

Didn't the SFA make some PR spin last season when this happened that they would be introducing tough new legislation to prevent it ever happening again??

How can a replay be played at the Elgin? Surely if its a replay it has to be played at Either city park or Ainsley park ( not sure if the pitch is ready ).

From what i gather that the Spartan Lads may well be struggling to get all the guys off their work in time as short notice and the length of the trip involved. If thats the case then its an unfair advantage for Elgin so whats the point giving the replay?

Scottish Cup hits new low as Spartans are latest club to field ineligible player

Dec 13 2008 By Gary Ralston

THE Scottish Cup descended into further farce last night when it was revealed Spartans have also fielded an ineligible player.

The Edinburgh club were given another crack at Elgin City after they protested the Third Division club played a keeper, Joe Malin, who wasn't registered for the competition.

Now red-faced SFA bosses have discovered Spartans also used a sub last weekend in the third-round tie, full-back Dean Hoskins, who shouldn't have played because the capital club failed to re-register him following a stint with their secondteam amateurs.

The replayed tie will still go ahead on Monday night at Borough Briggs after another emergency meeting at Hampden yesterday.

The SFA gagged officials from both clubs from speaking and declined to comment but Elgin are unhappy the replay is still going ahead.

One insider said: "We've both made the same mistake but we're the only ones being punished as the replay gives Spartans another chance to win the tie."

Spartans plan to apologise formally to Elgin before the game on Monday and they will also be hauled over the coals by the SFA, who have summoned them to Hampden for talks next week.

But Spartans boss Micky Lawson refused to put the boot into his club administrators, who deal with a range of registration forms at the community outfit relating to senior, amateur, youth and women players.

Hoskins has been with Spartans for five years but after injury in the second round win over Annan he needed game time to rebuild his fitness. His registration with the SFA was cancelled to allow him to turn out as an amateur for the second team on November 15.

He should have been re-registered as a senior on his return to the top team the following week but it was forgotten in an admin oversight. Lawson said: "We're a community club with a large number of teams and players of all age groups and given the hoops we have to go through to register them all it's unsurprising a mistake has happened.

"I don't blame anyone, especially as we have no registered office at the moment as we prepare to move to our new academy.

"I was delighted we were back in the cup and said in the aftermath of the original SFA decision I felt sorry for Elgin but now I also feel sorry for us."

Hoskins and midfielder Alex King, sent off in the game first game Elgin won 2-1, are unavailable for Monday's re-match.

To add to Lawson's woes, skipper Stuart Fowlie and striker Donal Henretty are due to head off on a golfing holiday to Spain tomorrow.

He said: "We have 60 adult players across three teams but because of the registration rules I'll probably only have 13 or 14 players to choose from."

Made my day so far... T****rs
