The Old Tolbooth
Anyone else do the scoop 6 bet? This has rolled over for a few weeks now and the pot is up to a staggering ?5 million (approx), it's surely got to be worth a punt for all you budding racing enthusiasts out there. As a wee help I've pinched some info on horses to pick from the Sporting Life website, although I'll be having a look myself and pick my own nags. Leg One: 1410 Lingfield This is a seven-furlong handicap featuring a number of course specialists notably Atlantic Story, four times a winner at Lingfield and it's interesting Mick Easterby has booked Ryan Moore for him. Markab was a course and distance winner last time with My Gacho third. That horse has since reappeared to win on the course and has a six pounds penalty while Markab is five pounds higher. Brian Meehan's Swift Gift returned from a lay-off to finish fourth at Newmarket and is a potential improver. Leg Two: 1440 Lingfield Several of these have met before. Miss Brown To You won a race at Great Leighs the other day in which Spring Goddess finished second, Naughty Frida third and Izzibizzi fourth. It was a steadily run affair over today's distance and the way the race was run didn't suit the runner-up who had previously scored over a mile-and-a-quarter. With a stronger pace here she could reverse form. Victoria Reel heads the weights and didn't have any sort of run last time and is better judged on her earlier second at Kempton. She comes into it while Luca Cumani's Jennie Jerome looks progressive and should act on the surface. Leg Three: 1445 Haydock This race sees the return to action of Darkness, a leading novice chaser many moons ago. Paul Nicholls has a leading contender in Osako D'airy who chased home The Hollow Bottom at Aintree on his reappearance. Like a lot from his stable he looks like a chaser and will progress over fences. An ex-Nicholls horse runs here in O'maley and he was third behind Tidal Bay at Carlisle last time and he doesn't look too badly handicapped while Gold Medallist has always had plenty of talent for Philip Hobbs. Leg Four: 1520 Lingfield This is a high-quality affair and Bronze Cannon is one of the more interesting ones. He was being talked of as being a Derby horse earlier in the year but swerved Epsom and ran badly at Royal Ascot. He was off the track until a promising return at Newmarket the other day and it's interesting connections are keeping him on the go for this. Philatelist has been off since running third to Ask at Sandown in April but has some very good form on this suraface and is open to improvemen. Re Barolo finished second to Spanish Moon at Kempton the other day with Ajhar fourth, both could go well as could Hunt Cup winner Mr Aviator and the dual recent winner Yahrab. Leg Five: 1530 Huntingdon This is potentially the most difficult leg of them all and is a pretty low-grade affair. There are few who really appeal on recent form. Millards Lad is a staying chaser running off a lower mark back over hurdles and could go well while Acosta won at Hereford. Heathcliff has joined the shrewd Richard Lee and could improve along with Houise Of Bourbon who represents the excellent Tim Vaughan. Leg Six: 1550 Lingfield We end with a Listed race and features Ceremonial Jade who is a standing dish on all-weather tracks but Chief Editor is a big threat to everything. He looks to have improved after joining Michael Jarvis and the ground was too soft for him last time. Duff has good quality form while Prohibt represents a top team and won on his return from a lay-off last time. He could go on from there. Good luck folks, I'll post my selections when I get back from banging my head off the bookies walls
