I P Knightley
I've got to suggest at least 3 songs for my funeral. Don't know whether to go all mawkish and sentimental; to raise the roof with party/dancey songs or to go for a couple of funnies. I'm tempted by "Burn, baby, burn; disco inferno" that may raise a smile or two. For fun, I'm tempted to have a gay anthem or two, just to leave folk wondering. If I want folk to be mopping their eyes, I'd go for "Song is Over" by The Who or, since I'm a father and I have sons, I could choose "Father & Son" by Cat Stevens. Struggling here. Any suggestions? ado
Was thinking about this the other day. Well meet again by Johnny Cash seems quite fitting. My weepie would be Somewhere over the rainbow by Eva Cassidy. Maybe not relavant but the acoustic version fo the Manics This is yesterday day always makes me think of funerals and death? Just my thoughts from the other day, i do a lot of driving see....

I P Knightley
Quick question, is there a reason for selecting them now? I've just realised that I'm not immortal. Nothing too dramatic, in all honesty. A few mates have got together to counter the "book clubs" that our wives all attend. Instead of choosing a book not to read and not to discuss over a bottle or seven of wine, we choose a musical theme and select 3 songs each in the theme & play and discuss them over a bottle or seven of wine, beer, pizza and smokes. Unlike the wives' book clubs, we actually take the music element of it fairly seriously. But the booze and smoking are taken even more seriously. In My Life by the Beatles - for my friends Good one! It was playing on the radio when my second son was born, an event that was the end of a very long and hard road. God, I was a snivelling wreck. I P Knightley
My calculations have made the assumption that Elton John won't re-work Candle in the Wind for me. If he does, then out of politeness, I would have to restrict the choice to 2 songs. As an ex-pat, I'm tempted by Dougie MacLean's Caledonia. Or Frankie Miller's; I can't decide!! Beverley
great gig in the sky i think as people are coming in, since i've been a singer all my life, even though i rarely gig these days oh happy day - edwyn hawkins choir can be the religious content of the afternoon weepy - tough one, but maybe to where you are by josh grobin or going home by mary fahl as i'm being cremated baby i'm burnin by dolly parton for chits & giggles something like i lost my heart to a starship trooper, your disco needs you or some big campy number and as people are leaving i can't decide really, i'll get back to y'all
