I love the Guardian. You can sense the glee in their tone as they discuss this. They've practically got the poms poms out.:)

There won't be a U.K. GE in the summer because the english Council elections and the European elections are already scheduled for june next year. If the London media can keep the spin going that Brown is not the cause of, but the solution to the woeful U.K. economic performance, put your money on march. It's the most likely month if all is going well in the opinion polls, and he can't afford to bottle it a second time.

Browns bounce will be complete if he gets re elected, this will be an amazing turn around from where he was 6 months ago.

The phrase Brown bounce makes me think of someone running home after discovering it wasn't just a fart.

A quick election is his only chance

General analysis of the stock markets expects some sort of stock rally for the next 4 months or so. If everything rallied until a Spring election Brown could claim victory on the financial stuff, and may just blag his way back in.

However, he'd only be in a matter of days or weeks before the stock market crashes big time...

The People's Chimp

If he does go for an early election, something which may be the sensible option for labour, then spring, as was stated above, would seem the most likely.

It's a big gamble for him, but the tories have floundered over this, the nats have perhaps shown themselves to be the pretenders they really are, the LDs have been nowhere and maybe it would be the right time for Brown.
