Karipidis

Apologies if there is already a thread on this.

Seem to be threads on Bruno, Driver and Balogh, but I just wanted to start one on Karipidis.

I thought he had an exceptional game yesterday. Was perhaps at fault for losing Riordan for the first goal, but didn't put a foot wrong after that. Was great to see a couple of midfield runs from him as well, very encouraging. He's in there on merit, and long may it continue.

I think we're sometimes too quick to blame one of our players when we lose a goal, instead of acknowledging that the play from Riordan (and it chokes me to say this), Fletcher and Nish was exceptional.

Oh, and I agree, Karapidis was excellent and is improving week by week.

I thought Karapidis was superb yesterday. He's there to win the headers, make tackles and then play the ball to the supposed better attacking players, Kingston, Driver Ect, ect.

Thought he was superb and complimented Bruno well!!

Well done csaba!!

Dr Ian Malcolm
On the ball he was excellent

I didnt notice him breaking up too much play though.

But deserves more praise than not

To be fair, long diagonals to Riordan (which were as likely to fly out for a throw as finding him) tend to miss out the defensive mid.

I think we will be a better team when Jonsson returns to the midfield to take Karipidis' place.

i don't think Jonsson was that brilliant in midfield. He certainly didn't win as much there as Karipidis did yesterday, nothing got past him

thought he played really well yesterday. some of his runs with the ball were superb, just the pass that let him down but that will come. bruno, stewart and karipidis in midfield look like a great midfield IMO.

spot on. there were precious few 'plays' for kari to deal with.

karipidis was excellent yesterday. just take a look at his wee run forward in the first half for evidence that he is a decent footballer.

if we have to play that system, karipidis is a must in his position.

Going forward he did well, but as a defensive midfielder he was lacking significantly, as he has been all season.

He won alot of headers in midfield which is one of the main reasons he is deployed there. It allowed us to get a grip on the midfield. Good performance.

Karipidis in midfield is find of the season according to csaba in tonite's evening hobo.

What an absolute slaver and bletherer he is.

To be honest, I don't recall Hibs creating anything with direct play throught the centre. Their approach seemed to be long cross field passes to Riordan and Shiels. With that in mind, I reckon Karipidis done a great job in defensive mid. They say that if you don't notice a defensive midfielder during a game, it means they've done their job, and with the exception of his 2 runs, he didn't get mentioned.

I haven't seen many games this season, so I can't comment on his performances in general. Making my assumptions plainly on 90 minutes yesterday.

When he goes on one of his runs he reminds me of Davey Mcpherson, just his running style, like he's surprised he's still got the ball and running in the right direction.

PS Did Hibs play with a midfield... if they did they hid them well.

The highlights of yesterdays game is on the BBC site now, look at the laughable attempt of a tackle by Karipidis for their goal.

just watched the highlights again. possibly a tad harsh re the tackle which led to the goal. the highlights also show another good run forward at the death which would have set up nade for the winner, if he'd taken it.

overall karipidis is looking better.

Not knocking his forward play, but he is there to stem the flow towards our goal. We have conceded too many this season, and he is a big part of that IMO. The sooner he gets better at his job the better, or the sooner we play a defensive midfielder instead of a defender.

Say Zibi had went up and scored an overhead kick in the semi two years ago, would that have excused his goalkeeping stupidity?

LOL!!! no, not saying that... but every player makes mistakes in a match, especially in a high-octane match like the derby.

i still harp back to what actually led to the goal... jonsson's ludicrous throw in which got zali(?) into trouble, which in turn got turned back to kello who was put in trouble, resulting in him having to hoof it out.

a combination of mistakes really.

Haha aye - i was sat yesterday and remembered telling myself "he's doing a Deirdrie!!!" during one of his runs lol

Dr Ian Malcolm

I think he benefitted massively from Bruno's return. Before, it was Him and Stewart in the middle with Audrey/A.N. Other ahead of them. This place much more onus on Karipidis to get on the ball and be more creative - thats not his game.

Having Bruno alongside Stewart allowed him to concentrate more on the simple passes and un-fussy aspects of the game, which he is in there to do. Also, playing with three CMs instead of two with one in the hole meant that when he did go forward, he had more cover and as such it was perhaps "safer" if he did happen to make a mistake.

You hit the nail on the head

If you watch the goal again, he gave the bal away and then to compound that, his "tackle" before the goal was powder puff to say the least.

Laszlo has stated publicly that he sees Jonsson as a right back. Frankly, I don't and didn't think he was great yesterday, far prefer him in the middle in place of the Greek.

Totally agree

He clearly isnt helping much in the defensive department. He carried the ball very well at times but if he isnt actually doing the principle job he is picked for - why is he in there? Because he is tall and can head the ball from midfield?

We'd be as well ditching the idea of a holding midfielder and playing 3 specialist midfielders in there.

Can anyone give examples this season of where he has actually consistantly broken up play in a game?
