MCLAREN...LEVEIN.....PRESSLEY...MCKINLEY

HARTLEY....CAMERON...FULTON...SKACEL

.............COLQUHOUN....ROBBO

SUBS GORDON,MACKAY,D.FERGUSON,BRELLIER,JANKAUSKAS,MCCANN.

only my opinion though but i think its sad that there are no heroes in the team these days considering the wage bill.

Your right mate, the current players couldn't lace your XI's boots, probably couldn't evan make their tea. Constructed on 1/10th of the budget as well.

Right, I'd have Locke (in his prime) at RB instead of McLaren cos he's CH really, Naysmith at LB

Cameron, Hartley and Fulton narrow in midfield with Robbo, Neil McCann and Colquhoun in attack.. so no far off yours.

Depressing to think how the values of the club have gone forever now, and how easily some people have accepted this farcacle Lithuanian 2-bit operation.

I think to get a team in its prime, you have to look at each season they were at their best for Hearts.

So I'd go with:

Gordon 05/06

Frail 94/95

McLaren 91/92

Levein 85/86

Fyssas 05/06

Colquhoun 87/88

Cameron 96/97

Hartley 05/06

Skacel 05/06

Robertson 87/88

Jankauskis 05/06

5 Subs

Niemi 00/01

Jardine 85/86

Weir 96/97

Fulton 97/98

Fuller 01/02

Not a bad team I would have Frail in instead of McLaren and Maybe Gordon in goals otherwise good team. To answer you question only Stewart of the current team would maybe be 20th reserve the others would be a million miles away.

Chuck was an absolute fixture in that team, but I thought Iain Jardine sometimes forced Kenny Black out, or maybe into left back?

With players like Henry Smith, Walter Kidd, Dave McPherson, Craig Levein, Alan McLaren, Gary Mackay, Neil Berry, Kenny Black, John Colquhoun, Sandy Clark, and Robbo, to name just a few...does anyone else think that we underachieved massively during this period?

I'd settle for that line-up anytime!

In the cups yes we could/should have done better however those guys had consistenly high league placings with several 2nd/3rd placings although there was still too many annoying 5th/6th placings - they seemed to rise/fall 3 places each seasons and never put good back to back seasons or qualify for europe twice in a row - but as a whole their 10 years in the team was probably a high watermark in terms of consistently finishing in the top 3 and the club was definitely maximising it's resources in that period and club debt wasn't really on anyone's radar as it was kept relatively small.

These are my all time favourite 'era' players, but for the sake of debate, this was also the team (minus or or two names from that list) that nearly got themselves relegated in 93/94 and 94/95, and were pretty rank in 92/93.

That's not to say it was their fault. There were many factors.

I absolutely ove the Robbos and the Colquhouns and the others off that list you named but they had their ups and down too.

Neil Berry played in all of the run of 31 games unbeaten. At first, Iain Jardine was in midfield with Brian Whittaker at left back and Kenny Black on the bench. Whittaker got either injured or suspended and was replaced by Black. Later, Jardine was injured and Black stepped forward into midfield with Whittaker returning at left back.

I'm sure I heard/read Alex McDonald saying it was a 3-4-3 - like this, I'd imagine:

Smith

Levein Jardine Whittaker

Kidd MacKay Berry Black

Colquhoun Clark Robertson

Definitely a front three, though.

Have to agree with the fact Janny in my opinion wouldnt make it into the team. He was good, but still feel he wouldnt make it into an all time select!

Still it shows we have lacked quality strikers for quite a number of years...apart from wee Robbo!

Fair enough, but you offer no alternative. Who then would you put in his place; based on one season's form?

Again, I stress that my team was made up of 'form seasons', and in my opinion, Janny's 05/06 form was better than say Sandy Clark in 85/86 or Scott Crabbe 89/90, or Ricardo Fuller's 01/02 or MDV's 02/03.

The 'Glorious' DVD shows that.

I think it's easy to remmber Janny as the lazy git from the next season, but he really was brilliant in his first term here.
