I thought you claimed to know your music. That choon is not of the electronic genre.

If, like me, you owned "Sugarhill Club Classics" you would know that.

It's a drum machine and an 808 synth - don't get any more electronic than that.

It's early electro, a pre-cursor to hip-hop in it's present form.

Have a look at the discogs file

http://www.discogs.com/release/65340

It says hip-hop as a genre but electro as style. I's agree with that. It's an electro tune but the fact that Melle Mel raps on it kind of makes it hip-hop.

Any way, i wasn't speaking of electronic as a genre, i was more meaning music made with synths and drum machines.

While we're on 80s stuff, any of you fans of disco/italo/boogie?

Can give links to a couple of mixes of this stuff if anyones interested.

Also have one of early house stuff from the mid-80s.

If you're talking the late 80's Italo House stuff then aye, got to admit I'm a bit of a sucker for some of that! NOT the Italo-Disco mid 80's stuff though, that's jobbies.

Also wouldn't mind the early house one you mention...

Get yer links oot Craig!

Tazio mentioned them as something i'd like earlier in the thread so i'll defo take a look. The LPs are cheap as anything any way.

I like pre 1994 house when it was acidy / drum machine sounding with loads of samples and stuff.

When they started sampling disco beats and making it "funky" it just got rubbish.

Their "Dare" Album was their best. Every track was great.

Groundbreaking in '78 and first recorded on Edinburgh's fast label :)

Sorry guys , but most of the music '*****ered' out in the '80's was crap. Check out VH1 etc when they do the 'best of 80's' that most of the videos that are on are lillian. I feel embarrassed to even admit I like the odd tune.

The problem with any "best of" is they will populate it with the best sellers of the time - many of which were mince. :P

If we fast forwarded twenty years would the "best of the noughties" likely contain songs which you currently like - or ones which you despise? ;)

The Eighties was the last decade which contained any musical originality - everything else since then has been a rehash/pastiche of what's gone before.

You're definitely right about whether these songs are "electronic" or not - most are definitely not! :P

But I'd have to say it's a very nice selection.

I'd probably describe your musical taste as eclectic - or even "catholic" (just to annoy some posters here :P).

Not really electronic, is it?

Also, was released in 1979.

certainly say there is quite a lot of electronic in it, but crikey was it that long ago....

I bought an OMD album in 1980 and it was ok. However, being a guitar player ( at the time ) I thought it was pretty soulless. Saying that I always thought Bill Nelson mixed electronic music with guitar very well. Be-bop Deluxe did some inteesting stuff and I had a few of their albums.

The Mighty Thor

some cracking tunes from the 80's but what about this one from the early 70's ?

It's from 1972 and was written by Giorgio Moroder. It was one of the first hit songs to heavily feature a moog synth.

Despite its obvious potential groundbreaking qualities, it's still sh*t.

Son of my father...moulded I was folded I was preform-packed....

commanded I was branded in a plastic vac...bullsh*t.

However far it seems

Well always be together

Together in electric dreams"

Apologies for repeats as I have not clicked on all links.

Eighties electronica : Kraftwerk, New Order, Talk Talk and Paninaro all stick out. Also, given that BB has already mentioned him, the Blade Runner soundtrack is astonishingly good. Technically eighties electronica even though the album was not released (as we know it) until the nineties.

As for early house, Joe Smooth - Promised Land (before Weller butchered it), Sueno Latino - Sueno Latino, Mr Fingers - Can You Feel It?, Rhythim Is Rhythim (sic) - Strings, Joey Beltram - Energy Flash, Hardfloor - Hardfloor Acperience, Slam - Eterna, Ettienne De Crecy - Prix La Choc, Last Rhythm - Last Rhythm and the finest of all, Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea.

Sorry, no vids!
