Rawrrrrrrr
But will the avi file play as an avi? Sure I had problems with it before. It depends Some DVD players are compatible with these sort of files, if not you will need to get a DVD converter software which can be downloaded and then burn the converted file onto a disc

ethanlad
Buy a divx dvd player of the net, any cheap chineese type will do. This will save you converting the avi files and you can get about 6 movies on one dvd. You should get a divx dvd player for about ?25.

wibble
To play AVI's (which most reasonably sized bit torrent movies are) you need a dvd player that can play DIVX files (or thats the wee symbol on the front of the player). Most newer players have that symbol. Older players will simply not play AVI's and converting the files to DVD is a real pain and very time consuming. With Divx compatible players you can burn 5 or 6 movies to a single DVD. If you are looking for a new player look for 4 things: Divx compatible - so you can play your AVI's HDMI output - so you can make the most of your HD LCD?Plasma 1080i Upscaling - this boosts the picture to HD dimensions (but can't turn a crappy quality film into a blu-ray experience:) ) USB input - this means you can watch a downloaded film straight off your memory stick without burning it. Also, the better brands might be twice the price, but when it's the difference between 20 quid and 40 quid, go for the Pioneer or the Sony over the noname.
