davieholt
Just came across a Scotsman dated October 1967. Interesting stuff . . Hearts formed HOM Nominees Ltd to invest ?150,000 and develop the land behind the main stand. Two new clubs with a stage. Hope to attract top entertainers along the highly successful Sunderland model. Hmmm . . the plan didn’t work then ! (I know the clubs were built but . . . ) Also in the issue – Tommy Docherty resigns from Chelsea after receiving a 28 day suspension from the FA. The breathalyser introduced. Charles de Gaulle says ‘non’ to UK entry to the Common Market By election writ moved for Hamilton and Winnie Ewing is contesting the seat for the SNP ! 1 year old Austin Mini - ?410 But the really interesting thing is that there were no football stories on the back page. Nothing about what OF players had for lunch. No speculation about Hibs winning the cup, no St Johnston ‘handing out a warning’ etc – sod all ! Stuart Lyon
Ace of Hearts was one of the clubs and although they were popular and busy allegedly the takings didn't match the value of the stock sold hence they were put to the sword. davieholt
De Gaul had a bit of a cheek considering we saved his bacon in WW2. Cheese eating surrender monkey. I think that was part of the problem. De Gaulle thought we might walze in and start running the show. We were too close to the yanks for France to allow that. We were too close to the yanks for France to allow that. Apparently he was totally ungrateful for everything the British and Americans did for France during WW2. He was as ungracious as it was possible to be and loathed the fact that he owed the British. Just your typical Frenchman then.

Some successful, some not but your claim that they have never done it is somewhat misleading given the above success against a fighting machine as great as the Vikings. jambos are go!
Until the 1970s the Scotsman had very limited football coverage concentrating on Rugby even when there were big football games. The growing middle class from a football background caused a rethink - methinks. They also got John Rafferty a top football journalist.
