Didn't the Olympics finish a fortnight ago?

Has the fat idiot been sleeping since then?

Be fair.

That's a hell of a difficult speech to write. I mean, he couldn't say "congratulate all British Olympians", could he? And he'd have been careful about casting the net too wide - "all people who do sports" would've been an appalling gaffe ;)

He also had to consider whether to wait for the Paralympics to finish so that he wouldn't be excluding significant number of high-achieving sports people in favour of their able-bodied counterparts.

Tough stuff being a FM*.

* - afterthought: FM = First Minister. Might have been a few misinterpretations of that one.

He wasn't asked? This is the first sitting of Parliament since the Olympics?

He's been opening his gub at all other oppertunities banging on about Scottoish success. He's done a great deal of sounding like a parochial wee man during and since the olympics.

How many times has he been on TV or done an interview for the press since they finished.

For a leader he seems to be following the lead of others on this.

Depends if you count the Paralympics. I hope all the British athletes do well and bring home more gold to add what we have already got. There are athletes at the Paralympics that make Phelps's medal haul look decidedly average.

As for not being asked, it's never stopped the Pompous One from pontificating in the past.

As for the first sitting, he was spouting plenty about having a separate Scottish team while the Diddy Parliament was in recessand the Olympics were still going on.

You must do better if you expect to be taken seriously Togster, never mind winning an argument for once...:o

I hope it hurt him to speak positively about Great Britain.

But he didn't specify which Olympians he was congratulating. Probably all of them: Bolt, Phelps, Hoy, Pendleton for having given us an entertaining games.

Except the wee diving laddie. He didn't deserve congratulations.

It's the usual parliamentary speech, and in this case the gov setting out their stall for the next year. Similar to what the Queen's Speech is for Westminster. Saying well done to everyone, and in this case a few days before they have whatever event they are having in Edinburgh to commemorate the Scottish competitors would seem fair to me.

Where did he mention Great Britain ?

Surely 'ALL Olympians' covers everyone from Usain Bolt to Micheal Phelps...

If he was talking about Britain then fair enough and good on him for doing it.

His comment was pretty vague. How surprising..
