Russia warns NATO over build-up of warships in Black Sea

Russia?s military says it is bewildered by the build-up of NATO?s naval force in the Black Sea ? and scoffed at claims the warships were delivering humanitarian aid. Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff, Colonel General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, told a media briefing that there are currently ten :eek:NATO warships with cruise missiles in the area, and eight more are expected to arrive there shortly.

?These ships are very seriously armed,? Nogovitsyn said. ?As far as cruise missiles are concerned, they are strategic arms and have a range of 2,500 km. The Black Sea is just a pool for them.?

The Colonel General added it?s very hard to believe these ships have arrived just to bring humanitarian aid.

He said the build-up was connected with Georgia?s wish to restore its military potential and added Russia will find a way to find out if armaments or military gear are being delivered to Georgia by NATO ships.

Nogovitsyn said Russia may stop cooperation with NATO, including military transit to Afghanistan through its territory, though it hasn?t done it yet.

"Our Supreme Commander-in-Chief did not say we are stopping cooperation. He just made it clear such a thing can happen because a number of statements have been made by the Pentagon and other countries on possible sanctions - like in the worst times of the Cold War."

Britain is wrong to follow the US Neo-Con Imperialist agenda. How can a country which is situated east of the Black Sea be part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation or the EU for that matter?

Little Lord Cameron has pinned his colours to the Neo-Con mast. He is Neo-Conservative to the core. Brown should re-align his government away from the Neo-Con Crazies who dragged us into the illegal Iraq war and who are determined to ignite a further conflagration in the Middle East.

We have all got to pray that Obama is elected in the US and as a consequence sanity might prevail.

Would be a very large, very exciting and very short war that one if it ever came to fruition...

reckon the nuclear winter might be a bit of a drag though?

I reckon the chinese would take them if the big guns were held back. No nukes and China could take anyone...

Depends if China was fighting an offensive or defensive action....

If the Chinese were to invade Russia then the going would be fairly tough - huge areas of ground to travel over all the while vulnerable to artillery and airstrikes. IF Russia invaded China then they would have a marginally easier time of it terrain wise although you would have to expect the Chinese to have decent defensive positions....

Like I said, would be interesting though.

Read Tom Clancy's "The BEar and The Dragon" - it covers this scenaio fairly well

Aye read it. Think the balance has been shifting in China's favour since then.

And you're forgetting the MAJOR defensive advantage the Chinese have if trying to repel an invasion, the GREAT wall of China!!! ;););)
