Don't buy one. It's French and will most likely just fall apart. Buy a Ford or a Vauxhall

Or even better buy German. Or German owned such as Skoda, SEAT or Lamborghini.

Somehow I think that if the OP is considering a Clio a Lamborghini might be a wee bit out of their price bracket :whistling:

By the time she has spent the money keeping a Renault going for a few years the Lamborghini may work out as cheap:eek:

I have a new shaped Clio RipCurl 3dr special edition - just gone a year old and I am happy with it. I had a loan of a nearly new Ford Fiesta Finesse(?) last week for a few days and in comparison to the Clio it was not as good to drive, clunky interior and the petrol engine sounded like a diesel - although Fuel enconomy seemed good.

I would suggest a test drive of a Clio and other manufacturers in your price range to get a feel for whats out there.

Any guys who drive a Renault Clio are GAY.

FACT. End of. ;)

I may be wrong, but given the OP's username I suspect she's a girl :whistling:

My Mrs had the old shape Dynamique, And it was a cracking wee car. Over the 3 years she had it all she had to do was replace a tyre.

People slate them because they are French but a great wee car. No idea how the new shape ones are but if they are anything like the one before the new one then you wont be disapointed.

Angry Haggis is correct. For the money you'll struggle to get more. I used to have a peugeot 207 and it was a good wee city car. Again, no problems with it breaking down. The days of french cars being dodgy belongs to the same era as skoda jokes. It aint 1987 anymore kids.

My wee sis has a clio and its never broken down in over a year. Only time it was off the road was when she tried to overtake a bus on glasgow road and mounted the central island with the traffic lights on it. Har har.

 You for real?

I was assuming that the OP was on a Clioesc budget. A Fiesta or a Corsa (new shape is very nice btw) would be much better value than a Clio.

A clio will fall apart within weeks of it leaving the showroom.

Any guys who drive a Renault Clio are GAY.

FACT. End of. ;)

Ive got a Clio and I'm straight as an arrow as 3 kids, 3 marriages and a string of heterosexual relationships in younger life, and not even a remote curiosity about gay sex, prove conclusively.

Many guys who randomly accuse others of being gay and attach seemingly irrelevant pointers to the fact that someone might be gay (such as owning a Clio), are in fact struggling with their own sexuality themselves ........

Scientifically documented and proven FACT !!

Do you drive some big and gutsy macho machine which makes up for your lack of girth or length in the penis department ? Go on tell us what you drive ??

Anyway, back to the Clio. Nice enough economic small car, usually to be had at nice cheap prices with good deals always available. Best of its type I'd say. Ive had 4 now.

i've a new style clio extreme 1.2(tomtom special edition) and its been a great wee car. i got it because it was cheap to buy, cheap to run and had good safety aspects (not because i'm gay, and no i'm not gay). its perfect for london and any other city centre. its not the quickest of cars but thats not what i was looking for.

i get 43mpg compared to the 28 i used to get in my mini cooper.

its been named "Tank" as some muppet floored his honda prelude in reverse and smacked in to my front bumper. his rear bumper was mangled and falling off and he only managed to crack my number plate

forgot to say, make sure you shop around.

i'm against buying a brand new car but mine cost less new than what a year old one would've cost.

The new Vauxhall Corsa wipes the floor with the Clio!!!

Get the Corsa 1.3 Diesel. ?35 tax for the year. 60+ MPG. Cheap insurance. Cracking looking thing...And vauxhalls don't tend to go wrong (I've had 2 astra's in the past and no problems apart from a new starter motor)

agree, i've just ordered a brand new astra diesel 1.7, and its only going to be around ?110 for tax (compared to next year ?205 for my current 1.4 petrol astra) and should get 50+MPG

?205 tax for a 1.4? Rather steep

I've got a 1.3 Fiesta and it's ?120 for the year which isn't too bad, but I'm maybe after one of those Corsa's early next year.

Is it just me, or do all new small cars look the same nowadays?

The Mazda 2, Corsa, Colt, the Clio to some extent and now the new fiesta...

Yes, I somehow imagined you'd drive a clio, as their drivers tend to be whinging, moaning faced gits who cannot afford a decent motor.

And yes, I do have some homosexual feelings, fancy a date? :)

I have. It was bigger than the A-Team van too. :P

you never owned it. It was mummy & daddy's. That makes it gay.

I'm about to buy a 55 plate Skoda Fabia 1.4 16V Ambiente from Graham Chathams in Dunfermline. The extras like extended warranty etc make it well worth the money and the insurance is cheaper than my 6 year old Xsara. It's not as funky looking as the new Clio and the others mentioned but I suppose I have to grow up sometime.

I P Knightley

The best small cars still come from Fiat.

You're helped by the depreciation and should be able to get a low mileage, high spec, not very old Punto for a good price.

Haven't driven a Renault in years but the neighbours have a wee Clio which they picked up from a car supermarket. They've had it a year and it's only let them down twice. They had 2 Puntos before that and despite regular thrashings from their kids, there were no breakdowns.

ps: the neighbour's Clio gets driven by the mum and the daughter. The dad drives their Audi 'cos he's not gay.

Maybe the so-called 'unreliability' of Clios is a direct product of them being driven by women and puffs??

My missus has a Clio...no problems at all.Same insurance and tax as the Corsa, but Vauxhall isnt as good as Renault [at the moment].

Ive got a Honda Civic Sport...absolutely no problems.

I agree.

My mate had a 2000 reg Clio. Piece of crap it was. The ECU packed in one day when he was driving along...So the car basically stopped in the middle of the road

Needed a new clutch. FULL exhaust an Cat. The handbrake needed adjusted. The washer jets got constantly clogged up. And to top that all off the air-filter popped out of its case one day so the car sounded rather rough...
