Blues from Laurel Canyon by John Mayall. My dad who was a big Jimmy Shand fan thought I was mad. I was 11 at the time and I bought it in a record shop at Haymarket just at the start of Dalry Road near the number 4/44 bus stop.

Had a few singles and albums as presents before buying Children of the Revolution (TRex) and Hope You Like It (Geordie). It was a choice between that or Layla and Other Assorted Lovesongs. Geordie was cheaper. I had actually bought a Hot Hits compilation first but I suppose we don't count them. The cover has a girl in a string cardie, big hat and tiny hot pants and bad cover versions of look Wot You Dun, Poppa Joe and Day after Day. Still have the damn things.

Carl Spackler

I'm not sure about the single. It could be "How much is that Doggy in the Window" or "A do do do a da da da" by the Police but I think both of those were bought for me. The first one I remember buying was the Hearts Song. I feined illness to avoid school that day and my Dad took me to stand in the queue to get it signed by the team at John Menzies that afternoon. Even better it turned out that I was one of the fans on the front cover. Happy Day!

The album was definitely "An Innocent Man" by Billy Joel.

First single I ever bought was "She loves you" by the Beatles. I think it was 1965 & it cost me 6/8d from The Melody Maker an electrical shop in Abbeyhill that had a record shop in the basement.

Cant for the life of me remember what the first album I bought was, maybe if I go up to the loft & look them out it'll come back to me. Then again maybe not!

My first album was the Flash soundtrack by Queen (I was only 7/8 at the time)

First single was Deliverance - The mission

Yes there was a huge gap. It's why the radio cassette was invented so you could tape from the radio ;p
