JamboAl1965 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 served with the Navy's FSU03 (rosyth unit) off Jebel Ali and Sir galahad during the Gulf war looking after all the minseweeper repairs and servicing in much the same operating manner as Kwik fit operated so we wrote to Tom farmer for a laugh asking for a set of overalls. expected nothing but he / they sent a box of overalls and a kwik fit flag that we proudly flew in Kuwait, being based there just days after the invasion of Kuwait by allied forces. Lifted moral hugely Top banana is Sir Tom, I hope we as a support treat him with the respect he deserves. RIP Quote

The Maroon Jacket Posted May 10 Posted May 10 A great Edinburgh man and an inspiration to what he built and achieved rest in peace Quote
Mikey1874 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Wanted to be known as the top car servicing and repair specialist. But did his charity work quietly and without any need for recognition. Sure we'll see a lot more stories of how many different people and things he supported. Quote
Gorgierools Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I used to go out with his PA and I was sat outside his office one day and he had a right good chat, laughed bout me being a Jambo, a nice guy. Then, the door opened and in walked Fergus McKann. A more odious individual you’ll struggle to meet. Bird asks his driver if he wants a cup of tea, “ **** that , I dinnae pay him to drink tea” he said. 2 rich guys in the same room . One had class the other not. RIP Sir Thom. Quote
Tazio Posted May 10 Posted May 10 A self admitted non football man that saved Hibs for their fans and the local community. Though I’m sure he grew to love the club afterwards. Quote

He said about the final that at least half of Edinburgh would go home happy if Hibs didn't win. He was obviously being diplomatic and not entirely serious. Quote

caveman Posted May 10 Posted May 10 A few years back my sister was stopped on an Edinburgh street as her car had a puncture, an old boy walked by, saw her looking at the wheel and said, “don’t worry, I’ll have someone round to fix that in five minutes.” Sure enough, a van pulled up and the lad changed the wheel. She asked who the old boy was and was told Tom Farmer. She was none the wiser but impressed by his generosity, said he was a real gentleman. Quote
asomerville Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I drove him a few times a lovely man. RIP a true Edinburgh gentleman Quote

Konrad von Carstein Posted May 10 Posted May 10 My best mate died at age 23, his Mrs worked for KF and Sir Tom arranged for her and a friend to have an all expenses paid holiday...This was almost 40 years ago...My respect for him grew from there added to by my Mum and aunty who knew him in the 60's and said he was one of life's good guys. busbyfth Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Really UPLIFTING - to read all these hugely positive sentiments about a man who was huge in saving our great rivals......where fans of some other clubs might not have been so forthcoming in such complimentary ways. Quote
weaz1981 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Seemed like a good guy and always willing to help others. RIP Quote

RIP Biggest difference between us and the vermin is, we as a support, aree generally very capable of putting football rivalries aside and paying respect to folk who have been involved with our rivals and showing dignity with it. They struggle sadly. Wallace Mercer being the prime example Quote
PaddysBar Posted May 10 Posted May 10 My auntie used to babysit his kids in the 70s. She said he was a total gentleman so RIP Sir Tom. Quote
