Is he still a part of the agency that Shankland was a client of ? Or has his new position as a gopher at Ibrox precluded him from this

Still works for StormSportsx, while representing more than a few Rangers players. No conflict there?????

Tbf to him, if they do a decent job he might end up there longer term as assistant manager or first team coach at a club he previously played for, if it doesn't work out he goes back to his previous work, he's nothing to lose really.

He looses credibility as a BBC pundit.

Or at least should do, but in Scotland we are happy to have absolute roasters like Pat Bonner and Willie Miller who laugh openly about not having done any research or even knowing the names of players from the teams that are playing either Celtic or Aberdeen respectively.

Spot on it was like he'd never played for Hearts - players with class show a bit respect but he was as horrible as Allan McGregor and the other mutants

I don’t mind him but his affinity to Rangers is sickening tbh.

He played well for us, and provided great entertainment with his wonderful wing displays.

I'll give him a pass.

I liked his chat at the recent shareholders dinner but he plays up to a crowd. He's not a Hearts fan. He just happened to be part of a great team.

Neil McCann is from a catholic family and his dad and brother were Celtic supporters, (he says that he was a LIverpool supporter as a kid but I'm sure he says that just to keep him from getting a hard time from morons).  He was a great player, he's a decent pundit and from many accounts he is a good guy.  The fact that many of his former clubs have come back for him either as a player, a coach or as part of the management team (eg Hearts, Dundee and Rangers) shows that he has something about him and that he's respected by his peers and employers.  Many of his former teammates like him and rate his footballing knowledge. He got offered the job of helping out some of his friends and previous teammates at a club he won loads of trophies at.  Of course he should take that opportunity.

I reckon Hearts fans aren’t too concerned with McCann taking up this job offer. Why shouldn’t he?

I think what most find baffling is McCann’s apparent strong identification with Ibrox. Perhaps more strange given his background, as you’ve pointed out.

As I said elsewhere, it’s like something akin to Stockholm Syndrome.

Happens to a whole lot of people. Andy Goram had no prior association with Rangers and he ended up well acquainted with the lowest life form of their support.

Gotta say wee mccann was a brilliant hearts player. Don't care what he does now tbh but he was one of the best I've seen in maroon.

Utterly sensational that day  - sensational and all he got was a bike from Co Co Cola for his MOTM display.

It's possible to have loved McCann as a Hearts player, think he is a great guy off the pitch and still be annoyed at his Rangers love in and the Shankland situation.

I’ll never forget the ‘98 semi final against Falkirk at Ibrox. We were pish until McCann turned the game on it’s head.

ironically mccann could well have been yet another Celtic through and through guy - always credits Dundee for giving him his chance and hearts for bringing him on and frankly anyone who paid his wages - says he owes Celtic nothing which infuriates many of them

there’s nothing wrong with being brought up a Celtic fan and carrying that on like Tommy burns or our own Paul Hartley - Neil McCann just chose another way 👏😃

interesting to see if he tries to get back in the game post-rangers as if things continue his stock will be up again especially as some might think he’s the brains behind the operation

I absolutely loved that Hearts team from the mid to late 90s, and McCann was probably my favourite player.  I think it stinks though that he's a football agent and a coach at a professional football club. McCann will definitely know if Rangers are interested wether Shankland is scoring or not.

Was part of a legendary Hearts team that gave many of us the best day ever in 98. Cracking player and also always came across really well on sportsecene etc. Was a great signing by JJ and went on to have a top career. Never to my knowledge said a bad word about Hearts and in my book is a good guy. Not sure why any Hearts fan would have a problem with him.

Yes - this is basically my view. Great player for Hearts, always comes across well as a pundit and he retains more than a soft spot for us.
