I think you're right.

We absolutely missed his workrate, but ultimately, playing with zero width against a team that very specifically plays with width was stupid beyond belief.

Need him back. Team has been increasingly poorer by the game since losing him IMO.

We’ve been poor for a while. The first half against St Mirren was re bad. Definitely need him back though

The delays starts as soon as our medical team get their hands on players.

Think their still following pyjama man's and the wand woman's instruction handbook.

Or alternatively they're prioritising a guys long term health before short term football. Personally I believe they're doing the correct thing by Cammy

I love Cammy, but tbh thought Beni was one of the few pass marks today and we tend to not look as good recently when they both play. Main problem in my view was our front 3 did almost nothing all game.

Cammy is not the problem/solution. We’ve lost two games since he got injured. One was due to poor finishing, the other was due to a 1 in a 100 strike from a centreback.

Devlin played in the game at Tynecastle on Boxing Day and was not at the races.

Today was tactical ineptitude.

He would have brought **** all today bar a yellow card.

Our problem was a team run by amateurs and completely exposed on the wings.

He would've noised up some of the vermin in his cheeky wee scamp style. Some of our punters like that 🙄

I don't think it needs to be one or the other.

The diamond in midfield is a really shit system.

A 4231 with our dynamic duo as the two would offer us a really solid footing in midfield.

Something like:

Gordon

Forrester Steinwender McCart Penrice

Devlin Beni

Hoff Shankland Spittal

Elton

It would mean Spittal & Hoff could almost ignore defensive duties, and focus on positive play further forward.

TBH I'd like to see Oda brought back in. Even just to bring on later in games. He's always been fairly impactful as a sub.

Last time they played 90 minutes together we beat Dundee 6-0

I agree in theory, just personally don't think it's worked recently in practice with both of them together. I'd agree that as limited as our options are on the wings I'm not sure just playing no winger is sustainable.

Aye fair enough, certainly worked that day!

We have bigger problems than I thought if we missed Devlin.

We had enough backwards/sideways passes to last a season today, no need for more.

Yet he’s decided to change the formation after a poor half in Paisley.

And the defeats were v 2nd and 3rd best teams.

Devlin returning doesn't make us unbeatable.

The formation and Devlin's absence go hand in hand for me. We played in the diamond in part because the 4-4-2 we'd been playing requires two staunch, dynamic defensive midfielders to hold it down, and Beni is definitely one but between Hoff, Grant, Spittal, and Kartum there's not another one. Hoff came in and played there when he came on but he's not fully back to full fitness and it showed.

I don't think Devlin on would have solved the problem of creating chances against Hibs' back 3. But I do think that a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 with Beni and Devlin in the middle would have dramatically helped Gerald Taylor, and to a lesser degree Penrice, in dealing with pressure on the wings.

I seriously hope he's back for Dundee as well because he was a big part of the thumping we dolled out last month and I think managers are starting to figure out how to play against the diamond.

Agreed. He should have the armband.

If Devlin had been in the team vs. Hibs we had have won, pure and simple.

Beni did well in the first half but tired in the second. Cammy would have run all day long and the game wouldn't have got away from us second half.

Absolutely no reason why both can't play in the same team.

I’ve heard this story before about a lot of our players. Until I see his name on a team sheet I’ll just assume he’s out for 3 months!

Penrice & Beni next best. But I think Devlins been motm about 8 times this season.

Definitely. If he say, "becomes the senior" player in that dressing room when some of the older ones leave or retire, then he's the perfect captain imo.

Really hoped he would be available for Dundee. We should still be able to beat them but I would far rather have him.

Penrice POTY by an absolute mile. Need to remember that Cammy was pretty average for the first half of the season.

That was my point. Until I see him back I’m putting little faith in hearing he’ll be back ‘next week’

I'd honestly give it to Wilson.

POTY & YPOTY

I think it also sends a message that none of the senior players have put in a performance this season worthy of putting themselves in the frame for POTY.

Penrice surely the obvious POTY - Cammy 2nd or Benni. Love young Wilson's attitude and effort but he's not achieving much. Elton -  on fire and now off the boil. Hope he starts burning again soon.

Cammy should be captain - Shanks' attitude 100% wrong for a captain - or for any player. Some of the ball boys look more upbeat than shanks, doubt he encourages anyone much - and that is what a captain needs to do.

Think the other team selection mistake last week was dropping Calem for Spittal. He linked up well with Penrice against St Mirren.

Would have both in tonight for Grant and Spittal.

He literally scored two goals a fortnight ago. He’s hardly off the boil because he hasn’t scored for two games. 😄

A drought !!!

Also had the ball in the net on Sunday, still knows where the goals are.

Pretty sure he is out due to a traumatic brain injury?

If so, folk should be under no illusions how serious that is. Depending on the severity he could be out for the rest of the season, its not a “delay getting him back”

If we had not cashed in on Boeteng in the window, we would have had a good back up when Cammy is out injured, selling Boeteng might have been good for the bank account, but it has cost the team and Critchley a lot loosing to Hibs.

Critchley's tactics nothing to do with it?

Not having Boateng is the reason we lost to Hibs? 😂

That's the problem with starting so well at a new club. The expectation for some is now that he scores a goal every single game and anything other than that he's not been good enough or gone off it. Such knee jerk nonsense.
