Just walked along to Inverleith Park and saw ... wait for it ... a giant Bumble Bee.

Unfortunately, it flew into a hedge before I could get a picture.

Here's me with my fingers & tootsies frozen.

It's the 10th of January and currently 0⁰.

Any nature lovers with an explanation?

That is very interesting, thanks.

Yep, I thought so, too. I saw a couple of bees the other day. Poor things will be getting done in with the constant below zero temps and lack of nectar.

I went in the loft one time in the depths of a really cold winter and encountered a living wasp crawling around.   It put the fear in me that there might be a nest but no sign of that thank ****.

I did that too.

I think that my über hot workies lamp woke the fu**er up.

I almost shat myself as that 'un was MASSIVE.

Slugs and snails were still actively leaving their trails on the outside walls of the house, until the hard frosts this week at least. Hardly seen any before at this time of year unless you lifted a rock or something and then they were in hibernation!

Inverleith Park has the odd cluster of daffodils just now too.

At the start of this week we had a dead wasp on our lounge window ledge when I went down in the morning.

A couple of bees on the bedroom skylight too!

What's going on? 👀

They'd have been queen wasps - they hibernate over the winter (all the workers die-off), often in houses, sheds, garages, coal-bunkers, etc., and emerge in the spring to start new colonies. Squish 'em if you're anti-wasp :smash: or leave them to get on with it otherwise. I'm not a huge fan, but apparently they do good work eating garden pests in the spring and early summer. :icon14:

Unfortunately, the thread of that title was removed a year or so ago due to some shrinking violets (faux woke?) on here complaining about it.

Some folk.

Stargazer lilies popped their heid through the soil (1 inch) just before Santa, kinda stalled now, I don't blame em.
