Hearts Heritage Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Billy Meredith Billy Meredith - Wikipedia Played at Tynecastle in Bobby Walker's 25th Scotland appearance. 19120302 Sat 02 Mar 1912 Scotland 1 Wales 0 We have his cap from that match on display in the Museum. Quote
Seymour M Hersh Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I don't think I have ever gone to Tynecastle for a game because of any opposition player. Clearly though there have been a few quality players graced the hallowed turf. Quote

Both world cup winners in 1990. Also Barcelona's current manager Hansi Flick. Quote

jamboozy Posted January 10 Posted January 10 (edited) Gasgoigne, a total nut but also a total genius with the ball. I remember his 1st game at Tynecastle, he pointed up to the back windows of the Gorgie road tenements and burst out laughing. Edited January 10 by jamboozy Quote

If he had played at Tynie he would no doubt have been the greatest to ever do so, but he didn't, so who is the best opposition player you have witnessed at Tynie? I'll start and I'll cheat slightly with Luis Figo for Portugal U17 team in 1989 v Scotland. Jimmy Greaves, Dave Mackay Quote

tartofmidlothian Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Plus Alexander Hleb and Edin Dzeko, probably the two finest players to never get off the bench at Tynecastle. Quote
tian447 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Interesting the people saying Bale. Is the question about the best player who has ever visited Tynecastle, or who the best player was at the time they visited Tynecastle? I would have argued that Bale was not the best player on the pitch that night, and that we struggled with basically all of their forward players, particularly Defoe and Van der Vaart. Aaron Lennon was also unplayable that night, we just couldn't catch him. Bale turned into a fantastic player, no doubt, but there have to be other answers that are closer to the truth. Quote
Cruyff Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Ones I've seen GK - van der Sar Def - Virgil van Dijk Mid - Gareth Bale Fwd - Henrik Larsson Quote
Australis Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Laudrup and Gasgoine. Larsson, Van hooijdonk. John Greig. Jimmy Johnstone. Robbo and Rudi Went to Pat Stanton's testimonial, he was a great player too. Quote
Martin_T Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Michael Mols pre injury gave a fantastic individual performance for Rangers in scoring a hat trick at Tynecastle. Ultimately not a great career, albeit a very good one. Quote
Famous 1874 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Player wise it has to be Gareth Bale. Greatest British player ever. Quote
stirlo Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Gascoigne. He tore us apart but an absolutely brilliant player and could be quite entertaining on the pitch. Quote
soonbe110 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Davie Cooper - even on a narrow pitch he was a great winger. Quote

Remember the 4-0 game and he was electric. Quote

Perth to Paisley Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I ONCE paid a £1 to watch Michael Stewart. Unquestionably the best player to play in Scotland waa LAUDRUP. Larsson was a close second. Thread can be be closed Quote

I'm sure Sow used to give Van Dijk a hard time physically when we played them. Amazing What he went on to achieve. Remember Dejan Stankovic playing against us. Quote
thegreatsd Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Lineker and Beardsley were good although just in friendlies if my memory is correct. I remember being amazed at Linekers pace and Beardsley’s work rate. Larson, Laudrup and also Mols was impressive before his injury. Thankfully the uglies don’t have any players near the talent of these guys any more. Quote
Mister T Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Davie Cooper. I think he played his last game at Tynecastle in a replay v Clydebank. Died shortly after. Quote
Scott980612 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Gascoigne Van der Vaart & Bale were just on another level. Quote

Mikey1874 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Close between Henrik Larsson and Brian Laudrup for domestic player I saw. But further back good case for Laurie Reilly, Jimmy Johnstone, Eric Caldow, Gordon Smith, Tommy Gemmell, Top players include Bobby Charlton, Kenny Dalglish, Bale, Davie Cooper, Gascoigne, Andy Goram, Jimmy Greaves, Willie Henderson, Alex James, John White, Xavi, George Young. Jason Scotland and Christian Nade just missed out. Quote
