Piano man is a favourite of mine. Sign of a great songwriter when he can come up with something like that from his everyday life. He worked in a piano bar for 6 months and I would wager someone did say a line from the song or something like it, "man what are you doing here"

I had a restricted view ticket at half price. He was a dynamic performer back then, but I’m not sure now. I also saw him at Ibrox in 1998, not long after we won the cup, in a double show with Elton John. In my opinion he was struggling a bit by then. I hope he can still give a great show. I think I'm right in saying that he still pops down to Madison Square Garden once a month or so just to do a local gig. I wonder whether he ever just goes into a local bar where the piano sounds like a carnival and the microphone smells like a beer just to see whether he can get a few dollars put in the pint glass on his piano.
